Summary
The newly-revealedMarvel Rivalscharacter, Adam Warlock, has an ability that seems to function almost exactly like Mercy’s original Resurrection Ultimate inOverwatch.Marvel Rivalsis one of the newer hero-shooter games on the scene, aiming to recreate the style ofOverwatchbut with a third-person perspective and a roster full of popular Marvel Comics characters.
TheMarvel Rivalsrosterhas been fleshed out quite a bit since the game’s reveal, ranging from mainstream stars like Spider-Man and Iron Man to lesser-known Marvel Comics characters like Luna Snow and Magik. Adam Warlock’s fame probably falls somewhere in the middle. While he’s been a fixture of Marvel Comics for decades, the character is one of the more recent additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having first appeared in 2023’sGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. InMarvel Rivals, Adam Warlock appears to be of the Strategist class, which is basically the game’s equivalent ofOverwatch’s Support role.

Marvel Rivalsrecently released anAdam Warlock trailerthat showcased the hero’s unique abilities. A comprehensive run-down has not been made available at the time of this writing, but based on the trailer, Adam Warlock is armed with a staff that can deal damage to enemies with Ramattra-style projectiles, as well as heal with a beam that calls Mercy to mind. Speaking of Mercy, Adam Warlock has an ability that mimics that hero’s original Resurrection, where he is able to raise multiple teammates from the dead simultaneously.
Adam Warlock Has the OG Mercy Rez in Marvel Rivals
Mercy’s original Rezwas hugely controversial in theOverwatchcommunity. While Mercy mains loved it, and it led to some incredible plays over the years, others felt that the move was completely unbalanced and had a negative impact on the game. Blizzard seemingly agreed with the latter sentiment, eventually reworking Mercy to make her Resurrection a regular ability with a significant cooldown that can only revive one teammate at a time. The OG Mercy Rez has been missing from the coreOverwatchexperience since 2017, but it has been brought back in Experimental modes. In any case, bringing back this controversial ability forMarvel Rivalsis sure to create waves among fans of hero-shooters. Considering how OP the ability was inOverwatch, it will be interesting to see ifMarvel Rivalskeeps it or if Adam Warlock is subjected to a rework at some point down the line.
IfOverwatchis any indication,Marvel Rivalsheroes are all at risk of being reworked over time based on fan feedback and balance concerns. Fans shouldn’t expect there to be much in the way of significant changes to the game’s playable heroes between now and launch, though.Marvel Rivalshas a closed betacoming up from July 23 to August 5, but time will tell just how the developers will utilize feedback from it to inform the eventual 1.0 launch.
