From newcomers to the industry to veteran gamers who have grown up with the technology, it seems thatMinecraftis a game that has universal appeal. Released in 2009, it’s surprising that it’s still going as strong as it is, but asone of the most played video games of this year, it’s clear that Mojang’s open world sandbox IP is still pulling in the players despite its age. Part of this is down to the fans themselves, who are always showcasing interesting projects and also adding their own flavor.
Over on theMinecraftsubreddit, user Cirelectric has introduced something to the game that is not often featured, at least not officially. That is to say they’ve brought over elements ofMario Kart, specifically the vehicles themselves, in a new resource pack they’ve just completed. If that wasn’t enough, a short video on the thread shows that the karts actually do work, and they’ve even managed to build a racetrack. The vehicles are pretty faithful to their original Nintendo designs, and the user has made them available for download.

Despite not being known as a racing game, it’s interesting to see someone incorporate it intoMinecraft, and if it’s going to be a racer,Mario Kartfeels like it would be the perfect fit. After all, the series is a long-standing tradition in gaming, with the first installment released in 1992 for the SNES. It’s still proving popular some three decades later, withMario Kart 8being the best selling racing game of all time. Cirelectric’s resource pack shows just how beloved the classic Nintendo franchise is, but also demonstrates the ongoing possibilities ofMinecraft.
Even without fan additions, the sandbox title would likely still be just as beloved. Having said that, there are manytexture packs and mods for Minecraftthat inject a lot more longevity into the already expansive game. With any luck, Nintendo won’t take any issue with Cirelectric’sMario Kartpack, as the user says it’s completely free and so they aren’t profiting from it.
WithMinecraft Legendsnow officially announced, which is an RTS spin-off of the game, Mojang Studios seems to wish to take things to new heights. There’s already been the likes ofMinecraft Dungeons, butLegendsis just one other way of showing that the original game has a lot more to offer, despite the fact that it’s already one of the biggest intellectual properties in gaming history.
