The game may at first seem very simplistic compared to some MOBAs that are available today, however, the developers also added plenty of depth toPokemon Unite, allowing it to have a decent competitive community behind it. Despite, the simple design of the game, it is still quite common for many players to make simple and very avoidable mistakes.
10Leaving Default Controls On
Pokemon Uniteis a game made with younger players and mobile players in mind. Knowing this, the developers decided to introduce a very restricted control scheme. This however can be infuriating for die-hard MOBA fans who can be heavily impacted by the lack of control they get over characters' attacks.
In thesettings menu, there are a few ways around this, including a second basic attack button to distinguish between wild and enemy Pokemon. A targeting wheel can be used to allow players to quickly select nearby Pokemon with ease. Finally, default targeting can be chosen to always go for the lowest HP enemy in range, to help guarantee defeat.

9Not Learning Common Strategies
Unfortunately, as with any game, especially competitive ones, there are many strategies developed to help seal a victory. Fans should at least become familiar with the main ones so as to be able to hold their own in a match.
These main points include knowing thatSpeedsters should be in the mid lane during the early parts of a match, or thatAttackers and Defenders should lane together while All-rounders and Supporters lane together. It should also include knowing when to play offense and defense, especially around the wild boss Pokemon.

8Ignoring Team Compositions
As with every MOBA, everycharacter is divided into ‘classes’ or battle typesas they’re known inPokemon Unite. These battle types each have their own unique aspects.
In an ideal match, the perfect team composition would be made of one Pokemon from each of these battle types. Sadly, some players will ignore this in favor of picking a Pokemon they excel at and this can sometimes be fine – though there shouldn’t be more than two of a single type.

7Only Walking Everywhere
The standard 5v5 map is relatively large considering the speeds at which the Pokemon traverse the map. Especially during the later stages of the match, players can waste a lot of valuable time traveling retreating back towards spawn, or running back into a fight.

This is where different methods of fast transport can be utilized. Jump pads can be used to launch a character into the fray quicker than normal movement. A player can also teleport if they have pushed too far towards the enemy and need to retreat.
6Not Upgrading Items
Pokemon Unitehas a unique item system, in that items are unlocked with a player’s overall level. Then,up to three held items can be equipped during the character selection at the start of a match. This means that players have less to think about during a match, but can’t make a build in response to their opponents.
Perhaps due to the nature of items having to be upgraded out of a match, it can be easy to forget to improve them. Additionally, it is better toupgrade one good item to the max levelrather and using it across all characters, so the effects of the item are greatly increased.

5Not Learning Characters
There aren’t a huge number of characters within the game as of yet, so it is fairly easy to learn the abilities and niches of every character. However, all characters have a number of choices they can select for their moves, meaning that two players could play the same Pokemon differently.
Because of this, it is important for players should make some effort to become familiar with the Pokemon they wish to play andplay around with different builds for them, to see which suits the player best.

4Attempting To Solo Lanes
In a standard match, there are five players split along two lanes, so it is almost guaranteed that both lanes will have multiple players on them, whether it’s two or three. Players should remember this so they don’t get overwhelmed and outnumbered by enemies.
There are a number of reasons why a player might be left alone on a lane. When this happens, a player should not attempt offense, as it will result in a high chance of defeat, instead they shouldtry sitting back and defending the goaluntil one or more teammates return to the lane.

3Not Changing Any Settings
While it is not important to change settings to anything other than the default, many players have found a lot of benefits in some of the other options offered for control and some that just make more UI information for players in the game.

One such option is the Boosted Attack Guage, which displays how many attacks a player’s character has made, allowing an easy way to track when a boosted attack is due. Players should try experimenting with the options menu as they may discover some controls that work better for them.
2Lacking Battlefield Awareness
Battlefield awareness is an important aspect of many, if not all, PvP games. Being able to keep track of what is going on not just nearby but also via themini-mapis important in these team-based games. Players will need to keep an eye out for a number of reasons.
If a friendly player is getting attacked by many enemies, then players will need to assist their teammates quickly. They may also see players who require assistance in defeating an enemy Pokemon or awild boss Pokemon like Zapdos. The map will also show enemies attempting to score goals, so players will need to respond fast to intercept.

1Not Thinking About Goals
Since this game focuses on collectingpoints and scoring instead of destroying towers, players can sometimes forget about anything else as they concentrate on putting their collected points in the enemy’s goal, but they should still pay attention to the overall game. With points, a player should look around for friendlies, as they can make goal-scoring quicker by standing in the area.
Finally, players should double-check the time later on in the game, and whether anyone is near Zapdos.During the last 2 minutes of the game, point scores are doubled, so bagging a 50 point goal with 2:05 on the clock is a mistake that can cost the game. Similarly, if Zapdos is about to be defeated, all teammates get 20 points and instant goals, meaning there’s no stalling while trying to score.
