Halo Infinitemight not have had the most glamorous reception from gamers following its release, but the latest entry to the iconic franchise still managed to become the biggest launch for the series recording over 20 million players by late January 2022. Now, new details ofHalo Infinite’s rumored battle royale mode have leaked online.
Halo Infiniteofficially launched its multiplayer mode back on July 09, 2025, followed by the single-player campaign on December 8. Prior to becoming the best launch in the franchise,Halo Infinitequickly became the most-downloaded free-to-play title in the Microsoft Store and the most successful Xbox Game Studios title on Steam. However, despite its success fans haven’t been too happy with the lack of content and updates. In fact,The Master Chief Collectionhas more players thanHalo Infiniteon Steam right now. As such, news of the rumored battle mode, codenamed “Tatanka,” may come as a breath of fresh air for fans who were hoping for aHalobattle royale for a long while.

According to gaming journalist Jez Corden, Tatanka may add some elements fromHalo Infinite’s single-player campaignlike side quests and could debut as part of the game’s third season. This would put the launch window to as soon as November 2022, though Corden claims that it could be pushed for 2023 when season 4 launches. Corden made these comments on an episode of the Xbox Two podcast while sharing circulating details about the supposed battle royale mode.
Corden had earlier shared that a PvPvE-type battle royale could be expected and thatCertain Affinity was brought in as early as 2020to help 343 Industries with the development. Meanwhile, 343 is reportedly focusing on core multiplayer and DLC content for the game, as per Corden. These details come as a follow-up just days after InfiniteLeaks leaked key details aboutHalo Infinite’s battle royale mode.
At the moment, 343 Industries is yet to officially announce any details about Tatanka. However, the studio did unveil its 2022 roadmap along with aHalo InfiniteSeason 2 roadmapwhich includes campaign co-op and an open beta for Forge mode among other additions. 343 also announced thatHalo Infinitewill be gettingHaloTV series-inspired content, though these may be mostly cosmetic. While it’s unclear if news of the battle royale mode will be official anytime soon, it’s still shaping up to be an interesting and exciting period forHalofans.
