Summary

Halo Infinite’s newest map includes a semi-secret room that pays homage toHalo: Combat Evolved, the game that launched one of Xbox’s most legendary franchises. The new map was added as part ofHalo Infinite’s recent major update.

Halo Infinite’s January 30 updatekicked off the new year by adding the Illusion map, the Spirit of Fire Operation, new Forge features, and more. One of Illusion’s designers, Cliff Schuldt, explained that the new map aims to recreateHalo: Combat Evolved’s level design by implementing a unique feature not seen in any otherHalo Infinitemaps. The map’s central hallway, which runs almost the entire length of Illusion, has an active camo effect that renders anyone inside of it invisible. The map’s unique aspect is reminiscent of the approach used byHalo: Combat Evolved’s level design team, seeing that many of its maps featured a unique aspect not repeated on others. However, it seems that this isn’t the only way Illusion pays homage to the classicHalogame.

Twitter user MintBlitz posted an in-game screenshot that showed a semi-secret room in Illusion chock-full ofHaloEaster eggs. The room contains a TV withHalo: Combat Evolved’s main menu screen pulled up. Underneath the TV lies the original Xbox, the Xbox 360, and empty beer bottles. In front of the TV sits a table with multiple Xbox controllers and more beer bottles. This part of the room seems to be a tribute to the old days ofHaloand the community’s love for LAN play, which has since been mostly extinguished due to modern online multiplayer. The room also contains aHalo Wars 2poster, a smashed TV with an Xbox controller sticking out of it, and moreHaloEaster eggs. During most multiplayer matches, the room is closed off and only viewable through a window, but during Infection matches the room is opened up.
