During Gamescom 2022’s Opening Night Live, Gearbox officially revealed the first trailer for theTales from the Borderlandssequel, showing off the new characters set to appear in the game. The trailer also revealed the release date forNew Tales from the Borderlands, confirming previous leaks placing the game’s launch for October 21. The trailer did not provide an in-depth look at the gameplay of the sequel, with many speculatingNew Talescould feature significant gameplay changes thanks to its new developer in Gearbox.

TheNew Tales from the Borderlandsreveal trailer introduces players to the main cast of the new game, though it does not provide their official names. The short video sets upNew Tales from the Borderlands' story as revolving around an invasion by weapons manufacturer Tediore with rumors of a Vault on a space station spurring the cast into action. Previous leaks have suggestedthe characters' names are Anu, Fran, and Octaviowith Fran’s nametag, visible in the trailer, seemingly confirming these leaks.
New Tales from the Borderlands' first trailer intersperses much of the game’s more serious themes with theBorderlandsfranchise’s signature brand of humor. Remarks about “talking guns” and “guns with legs” are followed by a comical talking gun with legs bantering with other soldiers.
