New Worldis gearing up for its next major update on its Public Test Realm, with planned additions including the highly requested greatsword weapon class, a revamped starting experience for new players, and an all-new desert-themed zone, the Brimstone Sands. Although the next update is a work in progress,New World’s current list of changes on the PTR is already monumental in scope.

AsNew Worldwas Amazon Games' first crack at the MMORPG market, the highly anticipated game was faced with understandably high expectations. Initially attracting a massive number of players, the population ofNew Worldsharply declinedin the following weeks as disappointed players cited the lack of endgame activities, tedious grinding, and uninteresting combat. In response, Amazon Games has been putting in a commendable effort to improve the game with numerous significant updates that seek to address players' concerns. New weapons, endgame content, revamps to combat and the crafting economy have all helped shapeNew Worldinto an improved experience compared to its state nearly a full year ago.

The nextmajor update forNew Worldis beginning testing on the PTR and the changelog shows many promising additions coming to the game. A total revamp of the starting experience is in the works which will optimize the quest flow with NPCs who move around, helping eliminate the back-and-forth tedium. New quest mechanics such as wave events, tracking and traversal challenges, puzzles, and dynamic events will take place during the new story thread that takes players around each game region. New enemies, major locations, and characters are also being added to the open world.

Another highlight of the upcoming update is the new greatsword weapon class, which has long been one of the most-requestedweapons forNew Worldplayers. The greatsword will be a two-handed weapon that uses different stances to adapt to various situations, along with an Onslaught skill tree focused on offensive power and a Defiance skill tree focused on survival and fighting groups of enemies. Powerful new Heartgem abilities will function sort of like an “ultimate” ability, as they must be charged through performing actions in combat. Heartgems will be upgradeable and will hopefully add some more depth to player build development.

The new Brimstone Sands Zone will bring a unique desert wasteland theme intoNew Worldwhere players will find Egyptian pyramids and the remnants of the missing Roman 19th Legion. Of course, the PTR also lists several hundred minor changes and additions as expected with aNew Worldpatch, with adjustments to every weapon and playstyle along with plenty of bug fixes and general balance adjustments. Players can participate in the PTR by installing “New WorldPublic Test Realm” in their Steam libraries and logging into the PTR client.
