After numerous delays, Amazon’s first take on the MMO genre withNew Worldwas a smashing success. Following its launch at the end of September,New Worldquickly shot up the charts largely thanks to word of mouth and popular Streamers like Shroud alos jumping in. Following its climb up the sales charts, it’s popularity was sustained weeks later asNew Worldcontinued to be one of the most played games on Steam, even through multiple issues related to servers and other bugs.

However, the game’s popularity has continued to wane since its hot start. Recently,New Worldhas faced numerous issues including bugs, glitches,in-game economy destabilization due to a gold duplication issue, as well as a lack of end game content for those who have reached max level. Thankfully, Amazon managed to fix a lot of nagging issues in update 1.05, but with the server transfer process now live, some servers have seen a major population decline.

The community has continued to be very vocal about this issue, especially considering that part ofNew World’s end game content involves a mechanic called Warwhich pits large factions of players against one another for control of a territory. Without a decent sized player population, this major aspect of the game can’t happen. Thankfully, Amazon is aware of the growing player base issue and has confirmed that server merging is coming to the game.

In a response to a community discussion on the officialNew Worldforum, a developer named Kay confirmed that world merges are on the horizon, but Amazon won’t be adding them until the system has been sufficiently tested. Due to a number of issues that cropped up in the first few weeks which included very high queue times due and issues with server transfering, the studio is opting for caution before it utilizes this feature. Kay went on to reassure folks that the team thinks about it constantly are are actively working on making it happen.

Tbh there is never a moment where we don’t think about it, and are actively working on it. Our Community managers will keep folks updated when we are ready to make those adjustments.

Part of the issue is likely howterritory across the map of Aeternumwill change with the merge. Considering factions can control various settlements and zones, merging the servers won’t be easy due to territories not matching up. Speculation seems to indicate that the lower populated server will be the one losing territory data, instead transfering to the higher populated server’s territory instead. While there are plenty of things to consider which impact a game likeNew World, the fact that Amazon has confirmed it at all is a good sign and a positive one for the community.
