ANintendo GameCubefan managed to purchase a working console from Goodwill for just $25. While its sales lagged behind the competition in its generation, theNintendo GameCubeis often looked back on fondly thanks to its impressive library of high-quality games, its unique controller that many still use to play modernSuper Smash Bros., and its reputation for being one of the most durable consoles ever made.
All kinds of classic games were released for the Nintendo GameCube back in its heyday, including some of the most beloved titles in theMetroidandLegend of Zeldafranchises. Nintendo GameCube games remain popular to this day, with Nintendo bringing some of the system’s heavy hitters to modern platforms through remasters and ports. Interest in the console seemed to increase during the COVID-19 pandemic, triggering a price increase for secondhand GameCube games and the system itself. While things have calmed down a bit, prices on retro games and hardware can still be high, so it’s exciting whenever someone finds a good deal at a garage sale or thrift store.

TikToker Highanna (@highannna on TikTok) mainly uploads gaming content and thrift store finds, which includes everything fromPokemonplushies to classic video games to old-school strategy guides. Recently, Highanna discovered a Nintendo GameCube at aGoodwill store. Labeled a “used appliance” and listed for $29.99, Highanna was able to purchase the console for just $25.00. It’s not uncommon for used GameCube consoles to sell for north of $100 online, and so this is a fantastic find, especially since it still works.

Later in the video, Highanna tested the Goodwill GameCube using a copy of the 2002Spider-Mangame, the one based on the Sam Raimi movie with Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man. This isn’t the first time that an incredible GameCube discovery has been made at a Goodwill store. Last year, a Reddit user purchased a GameCube for around $30 at Goodwill. But instead of just getting the console as expected, they opened it to discover acopy ofMario Party 7. The loose disc forMario Party 7retails for about $25 online on average, and so getting it for free with the GameCube is a great deal, to say the least. If these deals are any indication, retro gamers should be sure to keep an eye out when shopping at their local thrift stores.
