Marvel’s Avengershas kicked off its DLC season, with the young Hawkeye Kate Bishop joining the roster and her mentor Clint Barton set to follow. Both Black Panther and Spider-Man are set to come to the game this year as well, with a Captain Marvel appearance also likely to be seen at some point. While it is great to have established heroes join the game’s lineup of playable characters,Marvel’s Avengerscould surprise its fans by adding some obscure DLC characters to the game.

Ms. Marvel’s role in the game’s main story is a strong example as to why this would be a good idea, as the relatively new and lesser-known superhero was adapted brilliantly in Crystal Dynamics’ latest game. Not only did her character arc serve as the backbone ofMarvel’s Avengers’ quality campaign, but Kamala Khan’s tale was good enough to help her become one of2020’s best female video game characters. As such, a similar format should be used with future hero additions, as introducing Marvel fans to a less popular character has already proven to be successful. While it is important to give fans access to heroes they already love, doing something fresh could be just as beneficial for helpingMarvel’s Avengerssurvive its growing pains.

Adam Warlock

While an MCU introduction of Adam Warlock was teased via a post-credits scene inJames Gunn’sGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, nothing has come of the moment over three years later. While the character may make his debut inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, there is plenty of potential to see Warlock appear inMarvel’s Avengersahead of his possible movie casting. Often walking the line between hero and villain, Crystal Dynamics would have plenty of freedom when designing the cosmic character’s move-set.

An unbelievably strong character, Adam Warlock boasts many of the powers one would expect from a cosmic hero. God-like strength, speed, and agility combined with the ability to fly would make Warlock a deadly enough combatant, but it is his ability to manipulate matter that truly makes him so effective in a fight. An expert in magic only surpassed bythe likes of Doctor Strange, Warlock’s introduction as a playable character withinMarvel’s Avengerscould prove to be a welcome surprise for comic book aficionados — and a chance for many fans to learn about one of Marvel’s most underrated characters.

Nova

Considering that one ofMarvel’s Avengers’ post credits scenessets up more content involving the Kree and off-world threats, continuing with the Cosmic theme makes sense. As such, it is hard not to think about just how fun it would be to play as Richard Rider. Better known as Nova, The Human Rocket boasts great hand-to-hand combat skills as well as other traditional superhero skills such as strength, flight, and durability. However, Nova’s more unique powers are what would make him a blast to play, as the character has seen a major boost in strength since his introduction due to his acquisition of the Xandarian Worldmind.

More recent versions of Nova see the character fully powered by the Nova Force, giving Rider the ability to shoot lasers and fire off balls of energy at his foes. The Worldmind’s ability to communicate with Rider and even control him could lead to an exciting story arc, while Rider being able to use gravity could lead to a unique ultimate ability where enemies are lifted and held into the sky. Nova’s power to create wormholes could also lead to The Avengers being able to access more unique locations from the books, bringing the team off-world easily whenever needed. Whilean appearance of Captain Marveland her similar skillset is far more likely to happen via the game’s hero DLC, the less popular Nova could be just as fun to use.

Moon Knight

While plenty of gamers have been talking about Oscar Isaac’s role as Solid Snake inthe upcomingMetal Gear Solidmovie, it is also worth noting that the actor will likely portray Moon Knight in the MCU. Another obscure Marvel hero, the introduction of Moon Knight would see Crystal Dynamics taking a more grounded approach to a DLC hero. Primarily known for close-range fighting and the use of Batarang-like projectiles, Moon Knight’s inclusion would likely see The Avengers taking on a more grounded threat. However, a lot can be done with Mark Spector.

Part of what makesMoon Knight’s Disney+ seriesso exciting is his multiple personalities, as the character is truly insane in nearly all his comic book stories. Supposedly getting his powers and gear from Khonshu, the Egyptian Moon God, Spector is stronger during the night — or so he believes. Part of what makes Moon Knight fun is how crazy he is, and how seriously Marvel treats his condition. Not only does the character have some very dark stories in the comics, but each version of Moon Knight acts completely different from another variation. Sometimes a spy and other times a mercenary, it is impossible to know what to expect from Mark Spector. This can work wonderfully with his gameplay, as each ability could trigger a new personality. With each personality providing entirely different moves and a new attitude to match, Moon Knight would be an excellent addition toMarvel’s Avengers.

Marvel’s Avengersis out now on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions currently in development.
