Hulujust released the first official look at the second season of its surprise hit mystery seriesOnly Murders in the Building, and the trailer already has enough packed into its short runtime to keep eager fans hyped. With a mix of new characters and returning favorites, season 2 looks ready to ramp up the suspense while retaining the laughs at just the right level. Comedy is a science, after all, or at least an occasionally pedantic art form.

At only 30 seconds, this teaser fromHuluhits the ground running with the series' 3 leads seemingly daring fate to come at them. After the season 1 cliffhanger, which saw thetrio of true crime podcastersapparently framed for murder and taken into police custody, it seems as though they’re onto a big conspiracy, and they’re ready to take it down. This is contrary to many other podcasters, whose most intense drama tends to involve choosing which match-3 mobile game to spend 5 straight minutes plugging this episode.

The series features former TV star Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin), struggling Broadway director Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), and young artist Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) becoming 3 unlikely friends who bond over their love of true crime and decide to start their own podcast when a mysterious murder takes place in their shared apartment building. Season 1 ended with the amateur sleuths solving the case only to find themselves right in the middle of another, and it looks like season 2 fully intends to keep following that thread. The teaser even shows off glimpses of some of the new characters, includingValerian and the City of a Thousand Planetsstar Cara Delevingne.

The series already boasts a star-studded cast, and now season 2 appears all set to crank that dial to 11. Not only will the already illustrious 3 main leads be returning, but the upcoming batch of episodes will include returning starNathan Lane as Teddy Dimasand comedian Amy Schumer in a new role. While Lane doesn’t appear in the new teaser, both Schumer and Delevingne enjoy a brief respective glimpse that should give fans enough fuel to keep the speculation train running for a while.

Only Murders in the Buildingis an interesting and funny seriesthat feels like a return to the cozy murder mysteries of old likeColumboandMurder She Wrote. It features the same focus on seasoned big-name actors while sprinkling in just enough humor to make fans occasionally forget they’re watching a stabby stab show. All it’s missing is fun catchphrases and an ’80s-style freeze-frame at the end of every episode. Those were fun, weren’t they?

Fans champing at the bit for new episodes might have a little longer to wait before season 2 premieres, but at least it’s definitely coming. They should consider themselves lucky. They could bewaiting onSilksong.
