Overwatch 2’s new Medusa skin for Widowmaker is being accused by some members of the community of being a “pay to lose” skin.Overwatch 2Season 2 is in full swing with a distinct Greek mythology theme. This is evident by the Zeus Junker Queen skin that serves as the final battle pass reward, as well as the Battle for Olympus mode that’s available in the hero shooter for a limited time.
VariousOverwatch 2heroes have gotten new Greek mythology-themed skins as part of Season 2. Some of these skins are available in theOverwatch 2Season 2 battle pass, with players earning access to them after reaching specific tiers. Other skins must be purchased from the store, with the Medusa Widowmaker Bundle currently selling for 2200 Overwatch Coins.

As illustrated in a clip shared online by Twitter user Kephrii, it seems that the Widowmaker Medusa skin may actually putOverwatch 2players at a disadvantage. The snakes on Widowmaker’s head make noise, which not only makes it more difficult for players to hear when enemies may be nearby, but it potentially also gives away their location. This is typically not a big deal inOverwatchsince most heroes are out in the open and battling for the objective, but it can prove problematic for acharacter like Widowmaker.
Widowmaker isOverwatch 2’s resident sniper. She can deal significant damage from a distance, though she is fairly vulnerable and easy to kill if anyone manages to get up close. For this reason, it’s important for Widowmaker to remain elusive by finding good hiding spots on the maps. Sometimes an enemy player may notice Widowmaker’s location and attempt to sneak up on her, but if she can hear them coming, she should be able to get away using her grappling hook. The noise made by the Medusa skin may make it so Widowmaker doesn’t even have a chance to escape.
While there are certainly someOverwatch 2players that are concerned about this skin, others have dismissed the worries, pointing out that characters in the game are constantly making noises anyway, so it should be a non-issue. ThelatestOverwatch 2updatehas not addressed concerns with the skin, but it’s possible a future patch will take this feedback into account and make changes if necessary.
