It appears as though Blizzard’s hero-shooterOverwatchwill soon feature a Mardi Gras event. TheOverwatchMardi Gras event has leaked thanks to Twitter user La Nimi, whose friend had unlocked content from theOverwatchMardi Gras event by watching Twitch streams.
PastOverwatchevents have had players watch Twitch streams in exchange for exclusive cosmetic rewards, so it wouldn’t be surprising for the Mardis Gras event to do so as well. If theOverwatchMardi Gras event is anything like past limited-time events, it will likely also feature content that players can only unlock in-game. Usually players are tasked with winning a certain number of matches to win some rewards, oftentimes culminating in an event-exclusive skin.

It seems like thisOverwatchMardi Gras event, if it does exist, will be a smaller-scale event, more in vein of things like theLEGO Bastion eventas opposed to Winter Wonderland or Chinese New Year. Considering this, fans shouldn’t necessarily expect a ton of new cosmetics when the event goes live.
As for when theOverwatchMardi Gras event may start, well, the most likely scenario is that it will kick off tomorrow. Mardi Gras 2020 starts on Tuesday, February 25, and since video game updates typically happen on Tuesdays, it makes sense for the event to start then as well.Blizzardhas yet to actually announce anything, though, so fans should keep their expectations in check until an official announcement is made. It’s possible that the event will just go live in-game without any prior announcement, though.
In the meantime, someOverwatchplayers may be more interested in larger-scale events. Unless Blizzard throws fans a curveball, the nextOverwatchevent will be theArchives Event in April. This event usually features a flashback mission that provides some additional story context to the world ofOverwatch. Previous years have featured the Uprising, Retribution, and Storm Rising storylines, in addition to new maps, cosmetics, and more.
It will be interesting to see ifOverwatchsticks with its current seasonal event rotation, or if it will mix things up with the launch ofOverwatch 2.Overwatch 2is expected to release this year, so perhaps we’ll learn more sooner rather than later.
Overwatchis out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
