The Phantom Thieves ofPersona 5are one of the most beloved groups of anime RPG protagonists in recent memory, standing at least on par with those from those from the previous game,Persona 4. Their flashy moves and stylish thief outfits are the centerpiece of the latest trailer for one of the upcoming expansions to their story,Persona 5 Royal.

The shiny new version ofPersona 5is part of a longstanding tradition of expanding an already existingPersonagame with new features and characters, reaching all the way back toPersona 3and its PSP port. The expansion promises all of this and more, but the big focus of the latest trailer was on a new feature specific toRoyal: the Showtime Attacks.

The trailer focuses on the Phantom Thieves, showing off their transformations, some of their dialogue, and the names of their alter-egos. It also shows theirnew Showtime Attacks, which allow two members to team up and perform a specific, devastating attack against the party’s foes. Each one of these attacks shows off both the individual traits and powers of the characters in question while fusing them to create a stylish, beautiful scene of destruction. Each attack also has a unique style, with Queen and Noir teaming up for a pro wrestling style beatdown while Skull and Queen opt for a moreFist of the North Starstyle combination, complete with a wasteland and rapid punches.

Another new feature was an attack from Futaba of all people, who is well known as the Phantom Thieves' support. Whether this indicates her transfer to the frontline or is simply a new unlockable ability of hers has yet to be revealed, so all we can say right now is that it involves a really big bomb. The trailer also showed off the brand new member of the crew, Kasumi Yoshizawa, her persona Cendrillon, and her Finishing Touch, which reads: Beauty is Devotion. North American players will have to wait to learn more about her untilPersona 5 Royalarrivesin March.

The release ofPersona 5 Royalin North America will, of course, see much more than what was shown in the trailer, and not just in the game itself. A huge amount of add-ons are lined up for pre-order, with thePhantom Thieves Edition even featuring a real life Joker maskand art book for fans who simply cannot get enoughPersona 5in their lives.

Of course, the question of how muchPersona 5is too much is very real to some players, especially since they may be considering whether or not to buyRoyalat full price when all it brings is a few expansions to the already complete game ofPersona 5. WithPersona 5 Scrambleon the wayand actually bringing new gameplay and story, purchasingRoyalat Special Edition price, let alone full price, should not be a decision made lightly.
