Companions play a key role in RPG’s to create more immersion and give the player more to care about in the world. It’s not just now their avatar’s life on the line, but those of their pixel pals. That is no different inPillars Of Eternity 2, but there are definitely those who stand out for their sheer combat prowess, design, or personality.

8Pallegina mes Rei

Pallegina has a rocky start to her life right from her moment of birth, rendering her mother infertile due to the labor injuries, earning herself the loathing of her father before she even opened her eyes. The derision followed her to her induction to the Brotherhood of Five Suns, but her skin thickened as she learned to care little for others opinions.

As a paladin, Pallegina has abilities that allow her to sustain mass amounts of damage and rally allies with buffs. However, Pallegina has an abrasive personality, indifferent or disapproving of nearly all the companions due to her own hangups about religion and godlike’s, and is non-romanceable to the Watcher. While her combat prowess may earn players favors, many mightfind it difficult to grow attachedto her.

7Xoti

Adevout follower to Gaun, Xoti fills in the role of the priestess of the party, though her piety is given an interesting twist with her unorthodox following, which saves her from falling too hard into the stereotype of religious characters. A self-taught priest and monk, Xoti is capable of dishing out damage and healing allies, which could be the difference between life and death.

Xoti learned most of her abilities through reading books, and is shown to be somewhat of a bookworm, but this seems to be the main trait of her character, aside from her unusual religious practices, leaving her character feeling slightly flat compared to others.

6Eder Teylecg

A veteran from the first game and the muscle of the part, Eder fills the role of the basic sword-wielding human warrior, with the signature tall and strong physique to match. With his backstory claiming him the son of farmers, Eden iseveryone’s firstDungeon’s and Dragonscharacter. With D&D God Matthew Mercer voicing him though, this doesn’t come as a surprise.

Eder rises above the ranks of peasantry, enlisting in the war effort that visited him humble village albeit refusing at first, following similar steps to the Heroes' Journey. With the abilities to soak damage, Eder is useful as a tank, and having at least one in the party at all times is nearly essential.

5Serafen

With the possibility to multiclass into a Witch (the combination of barbarian and cipher), Serafen brings diversity to the companions. His subclass of cipher,Wild Magic, can either hinder or hurt, but the fun is in taking a gamble and seeing the outcome.

Serafen’s life began shackled by chains of misery quite literally - he was a slave warrior, shoved from pit to pit test his mettle for the entertainment of others until he took up the sword aboard the slave ship and liberated himself. Since then, he spent years on the seas, eventually coming to join the Watcher.

4Tekehu

Tekehu is one of the godlike companions players can recruit, beings blessed by Gods before birth(or cursed, as some folks will shun godlike’s). Originally a talented acolyte of the Guild of the Huana, Tekehu has no shortage of confidence, which brims over to arrogance on many occasions.

However, his confidence in not completely misplaced, as he does have the skills to back up his words, being druid with access to elemental invocations or even the ability to shapeshift, depending on which path he takes. Plus, his lighthearted nature might draw some players to him.

3Maia Rua

Maia takes on the role of a ranger, equipping her with theabilities to sharpshoot, winning her prized companion Ishiza at a shooting competition. Despite coming from a prominent family, Maia herself chose to pursue a military career, where she learned to shoot with deadly aim, which is a key fundamental for a ranged character.

With the ability to summon Ishiza in combat, Maia bring an extra body into combat.

1Aloth Corfiser

Even though he was born into influence and wealth, Aloth still did not have the most stable home, as no amount of money could fix his father’s paranoia his wife was involved in an affair, with her work pulling her away from home.
