The Gigantamax forms are the most recent redesigns that the world ofPokémonhas introduced to us. Unlike the Galarian and Alolan redesigns, these don’t just alter the appearance of the Pokémon, they also change the size, hence the name. That means in order to not look goofy, certain design choices need to be made.

Some of the new Gigantamax forms look pretty good and do a good job of showing off the new design motif, while others make it very clear the design team was allowed to do whatever they wanted and it just doesn’t work.

10Best: Machamp

Machamp has always had an interesting design and it is part of what made it and its evolutionary line such a popular one in the series. Machamp’s Gigantamax form really emphasizes his main design motifs, mainly his strength and power and it also just looks really cool. His arms grew in size proportionally and he also gains this really cool looking molten lava theme. Its eyes are also a solid yellow and it’s pro wrestler inspirations are emphasized more as well.

9Worst: Kingler

Kingler is a Pokemon that has always looked pretty weird.Kingler looks likeone of those scary land crabs that you see on Instagram and its Gigantamax form doesn’t do much to fix that, in fact it leans into it. Kingler’s Gigantamax form gives it a much rougher and spiker look, which is a fairly good look for a raid boss, but it also gains this weird Santa beard which is supposedly made out of seafoam and also a halo made up of three red clouds over its head.

8Best: Urshifu

Urshifuis a newPokémonthat was added in the most recent generation and already had a good design, or designs in this case with both its Rapid Strike and Single Strike forms. Each of these forms gets its own Gigantamax form that shows even more variation from their standard form, which have the same color schemes. The Single Strike form now has a red and white pattern to it and the Rapid-fire’s Gigantamax form has a blue and white color scheme.

7Worst: Garbodor

Garbogor is supposed to look bad, it’s literally a Pokémon made out of garbage so it makes sense that its Gigantamax form is also not very nice to look at. While that might be the point of its design that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t deserve to be one of the worst designs.

Garbogor’s Gigantamax form looks almost exactly the same as its standard design and if you didn’t look too closely you would think that it was. The only changes are that the pieces of trash are things like yachts and airplanes.

6Best: Eevee

Eevee’s Gigantamax form is a bit of a secret and a fairly expensive one at that. to unlock Gigantamax Eevee, you will need to have a copy ofPokémon: Let’s Go Eeveeand have a save file of that game on your Switch. When you play eitherPokémon Sword or Shield, you can pick up an Eevee in the Wild Area Station and that Eevee will be able to access a Gigantamax form. This form is much more fluffy and has a nice thick mane.

5Worst: Drednaw

Drednaw’s Gigantamax form does a good job of changing up the original design of Drewnaw, but it is a fairly large departure from the original. Gigantamax Drednaw now stands on its back legs and the spike on its head is now extended so it kind of looks like a unicorn horn.

The changes made to Drednaw for its Gigantamax form make it look like it’s an edgier version of Blastoise without its cannons, which just isn’t anywhere near as fun.

4Best: Charizard

Charizard is probably one of the most iconicPokémonin the whole series, being definitely the most popular out of all three of the fully evolved generation 1 start Pokémon. All three of those Pokémon received Gigantamax forms but Charizard seems to take the cake in terms of having the best design as it emphasizes the parts that need to be without changing the base design too much, with added flames and a darker look on its face.

3Worst: Snorlax

Snorlax’s Gigantamax design doesn’t look to be all that bad when you first take a look at it but the more you look at it the more it makes you think about just how weird it is. First off, it appears thatSnorlax is asleep in this form, which is fairly par for the course for Snorlax but it seems that it has been asleep for so long that it has caused plants and even a fully grown tree to grow on its belly. Where do the roots of these plants go and where do they go after Snorlax downsizes?

2Best: Pikachu

Similar to how you get to use the Gigantamax form of Eevee, in order to get Gigantamax Pikachu you need to have a save file forPokémon: Let’s Go Pikachuon your Switch and then pick up a special Pikachu that is waiting for you at the wild Area Station. Using this Pikachu’s Gigantamax form in battle will show you a design that is much more reminiscent of early Pikachu form the show. Gigantamax Pikachu is pretty chonk and has a lightning bolt for a tail.

1Worst: Meowth

Meowth has to be a favorite of the design team over at GameFreak, as it has received ever single type ofredesign possible. Alolan, Galarian and now Meowth has its very own Gigantamax form, which is pretty strange to look at. the coin on its head seemingly got bigger and gained a symbol. Its eyes are now solid yellow and it lost its mouth, possibly referencing Hello Kitty, but the biggest thing is now that its torso is so long it looks like one of those tube men you see outside of car dealerships.
