The rarity, combat capability, and sheer cuteness of Mew are all factors that play into its popularity among fans, so it’s no surprise thatcountless fans have brought the Pokemon to life through artworkover the years. A talented member of the community known as LunaLovia on Reddit decided to craft their own crocheted shiny Mew plush, sharing their creation in a post on the site which quickly caught the attention of some otherPokemonfans. Though it’s difficult to tell without reference, the plush even seems to more or less depict a life-sized version of Mew as well, according to the Pokemon’s size information in the Pokedex.
As if Mew wasn’t rare enough, itsshiny version is a Pokemon that barely any players have ever legitimately obtained. Every species of Pokemon has its own shiny version, an extremely rare instance of a Pokemon which features a different color scheme than its natural form. Many Legendary and Mythical Pokemon that are obtainable in the games are shiny-locked, meaning that it’s impossible for them to spawn as a shiny variant. Mew remains to be among the rarest Pokemon in the franchise to this day, though fans no longer need to rely on distribution events to obtain it.
