OnePokemon GOfan has recently taken online to share a helpful tip that should prevent players from wasting their Master Balls once they make their way to the hit mobile game. Their advice follows Niantic’s May 16 confirmation thatPokemon GOis finally adding Master Balls.
Master Balls are planned to debuted inPokemon GOjust ahead of the game’s seventh anniversary. Niantic said this series staple will begin rolling out to players starting next week, although the developer shared precious little information abouthowPokemon GOMaster Balls will actually workin terms of availability. Be that as it may, what’s certain is that these items will offer the same advantage they do in the mainline games, which is a guaranteed 100% catch rate for any creature.

With that in mind, Reddit user pierreo93 recently took online to advisePokemon GOplayers that they should be careful about where they deploy their Master Balls. More specifically, the fan reminded the player base that shiny legendaries that spawn from raids have a guaranteed 100% catch rate on the first attempt. Therefore, while these elusive creatures might seem like attractive Master Ball targets, using anything other than a regular Poke Ball to catch them would be a complete waste of resources.
The guaranteed catch chance for shinyPokemon GOlegendaries only applies to successful throws, which are those that hit the encountered creature instead of being deflected. That notwithstanding, landing a throw on even the most erratic pocket monsters has never been too challenging. Not accounting for shiny legendaries, the most difficult part of capturing rare creatures inPokemon GOhas always been winning the random success roll determined by their capture rate; the Master Ball promises to completely eliminate that problem.
That luxury probably won’t come easy or cheap, with the current expectation among the fandom being that Master Balls will be primarily available as in-app purchases. And while the game’s developer has yet to reveal its plans for how this incoming item will be obtained,Pokemon GOplayers are already suspicious about Niantic’s intentions with the Master Ball.
Apart from Master Balls, the U.S. developer is currently also believed to be preparing to introduce the ninth generation of pocket monsters to its hit mobile game. According to one recent leak substantiated by some tenacious data-mining efforts,Pokemon GOwill start receivingScarlet and VioletPokemonin the near future. Given Niantic’s track record, it’s likely that the arrival of Gen 9 Pokemon will take the form of a gradual rollout spanning months.
