Summary

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’sIndigo DiskDLC has already been confirmed to feature some connections to previous DLCThe Teal Mask,in the form of returning characters and possibly new Pokemon connected to Kitakami. One area in whichIndigo Diskshould continue whatTeal Maskstarted is the inclusion of regional Pokemon forms.

WhileScarlet and Violetfeatured few regional forms outside those native to Paldea,Teal Maskincluded several, notably those found inPokemon Legends Arceus’Hisui. However, one Pokemon added in Hisui was notably absent inTeal Mask: Wyrdeer, the evolution of Stantler.

Wyrdeer: Stantler’s Hisuian Evolution

Stantler is a deer-like Normal-type Pokemon introduced in the Generation 2 games. It was a single-evolution line untilPokemon Legends Arceus, which granted it an evolution in the form of Wyrdeer. Evolving Stantler into Wyrdeer in the Hisui region involved having Stantler use the move Psyshield Bash in Agile style twenty times, and then leveling up. It is also a Ride Pokemon players can use to move faster across Hisui.

Wyrdeer Was Neglected In The Teal Mask

The Teal Maskbrought several Pokemon introduced in Hisui intoScarlet and Violet. This included Basculin’s evolution Basculegion and a special Bloodmoon form of Ursaring’s evolution Ursaluna, which also possessed a unique move. Although Hisuian Pokemon are ancient and thought to be extinct, these were able to survive due to the unique atmosphere of Kitakami.

However,Legends: Arceus' Wyrdeerwas notably absent from its fellow Hisuian counterparts' debut. This was especially surprising as wild Stantler did appear in Kitakami, although they were unable to learn Psyshield Bash, the move that allows evolution into Wyrdeer. The deliberate inclusion of Stantler while ignoring Wyrdeer, despite a setting where Hisuian Pokemon could flourish, was an odd decision - especially compared to the prominence Ursuluna and Basculegion received.

How The Indigo Disk Could Fix This Mistake

AlthoughThe Indigo Diskmoves the setting from Kitakami to Blueberry Academy, there are still a number of ways that Wyrdeer could be introduced inScarlet and Violet’ssecond DLC.

Blueberry’s Experiments Could Bring Wyrdeer Back

The Indigo Disk’sacademy is noted as a place of scholarship, science, and experimentation, with many different clubs studying all aspects of living with, breeding, and battling Pokemon. Restoring an ancientHisuian Pokemonto the modern world would make a perfect topic of research for one of the clubs. Players could even embark on a multi-step quest that would ultimately reward them with a Wyrdeer of their very own.

A Lost Wyrdeer Could Be Thriving In The Academy

The Teal Mask’sstory included a quest where players searched for a mysterious Pokemon living in the forests around Kitakami. This Pokemon turned out to beBloodmoon Ursaluna, who had survived from ancient times and made its way from Hisui to Kitakami. It is possible that a Wyrdeer - or a special form of Wyrdeer - did the same, and was then brought to Blueberry Academy for safekeeping. Wyrdeer would be at home in the Terrarium’s mountainous biome, which best resembles the part of Hisui where this majestic Pokemon once lived.
