Summary
A small patch note from the recentPokemon Scarletand Violetupdate has led to an impactful improvement, as Game Freak appears to have optimized how boxes work in the RPGs. As mostPokemontrainers can attest, boxes are a very important feature. Players are able to store Pokemon in these boxes and later take them out for usage. Being able to quickly swap between boxes and Pokemon is an important mechanic, but until now,Pokemon ScarletandVioletplayers have been left frustrated.
The issue stems back toproblems thatPokemon ScarletandViolethave had since launch. The two RPGs have had optimization issues from day one, and Game Freak has been slow to issue improvements. In this area specifically,Pokemon ScarletandVioletplayers were left waiting while each box took several seconds to load the icons of each Pokemon stored within. As players collected more Pokemon, filling more boxes, using the box UI became extremely tedious.

Game Freak recently issued a substantial patch forPokemon ScarletandViolet, released as part of the launch of thenew Teal Mask DLC. A short and ambiguous note within the update’s patch notes mentioned that Game Freak had adjusted how “Pokemon icons are displayed in the Boxes.” Any player that’s put a good amount of time intoPokemon ScarletorVioletlikely understands what that means immediately. Boxes have been optimized onPokemon ScarletandViolet.
Posts shared in the games' Reddit community have confirmed that boxes are now loading significantly faster after the recent update. Instead of taking several seconds to load the up-to-25 Pokemon icons in each box’s panel, each box loads the icons of the Pokemon within it nearly instantly.Pokemon ScarletandVioletplayers can swap between storage boxesas fast as they press the right and left shoulder buttons.
Some players were worried that Game Freak would never address this issue. WhilePokemondoes have a lot of hardcore players that have hundreds of Pokemon stored, more casual players likely never had to worry about the problem. They’d stick to the party of their choice and rarely, if ever, check their boxes to swap out Pokemon. Perhaps the release of the DLC, and all the new Pokemon for players to catch, prompted Game Freak to finally fix the problem.
Regardless of the reasons it took so long, a frustrating problem inPokemon ScarletandViolethas been addressed.Pokemon ScarletandVioletmay never be perfectly polished experiences, but every improvement is valuable.
