The PS3 was released a year after the Xbox 360 and it struggled to make up for the lost time. The console was pricey and it lacked killer content. Did it have a blowout with tons of first-party and third-party content? Absolutely, and these eight barely scratch the surface.
8Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag
Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flagbrought back the one thing that fans and critics adored from the previous entry, sailing. The feature was expanded upon in this sequel, as players were now Edward Kenway, a pirate sailing around in his search to become a great assassin. The stealth and action elements were good too, but nothing beat sailing around that vast ocean. It was a jolly good time thanks to the sailors aboard your ship who sang sea chanties. There were sailing elements in games past this in the franchise but nothing evertoppedBlack Flag.
7BioShock Infinite
BioShock Infinitewas a sequel that took this haunting ocean shooter to the skies via the utopia of Columbia. Players assumed the role of a Pinkerton agent, Booker DeWitt, who was hired to find a missing girl, Elizabeth. Booker bit off more than he could chew as not all was well in this utopia. Magical powers, mechanical birds, rebellions, and so much more set back Booker’s plans to escape with Elizabeth. It was a wild and inventive shooter and fans have been waiting for the next entrypast this trilogyfor a full decade now.
6Dragon’s Crown
Dragon’s Crownwas an underrated action RPG from the brilliantminds at Vanillaware. It was a 2D brawler at its heart with multiple classes to choose from. There was a multiplayer aspect that allowed up to four players to cooperatively explore the various dungeons either online or offline.

The coolest part of this release was that PS3 and PS Vita owners could play together. The game did get one more chance in the spotlight via a later PS4 version, but it never fully got a sequel.
5Grand Theft Auto 5
Grand Theft Auto 5needs no introduction since it has never left the gaming community since it launched. The online aspect of the game has kept it alive alongside the numerous re-releases. It’s one of those rare types of games that broke through society wherein non-gamers can’t get enough of it either. Rumors about the next game have been swirling for years now. It’snot like Rockstarneeds to release it anytime soon. One can easily see a world whereGTA 5remains a blockbuster for another ten years.
4Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeancewas a wild spinoff that took Raiden on an action-adventure. The gameplay did not involve sneaking around or using guns. It was more similar toBayonettawhich makes sensesince PlatinumGames helpeddeveloped it in collaboration with Konami. Technically, this is the furthest game in the timeline. A remaster to celebrate this game’s anniversary would make a lot of fans happy but so would a sequel.
3The Last Of Us
The Last of Uscould be argued as the last best exclusive PS3 game that swept the world by storm. Everything about the game was immaculate from the visuals to the story. At its basic level, it was a heartfelt journey about two strangers trying to survive in a zombie-like apocalypse.

2Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklistwas the last game in theSplinter Cellfranchisemuch to the dismay of fans. Sam Fisher has appeared in other games, likeGhost Recon: Wildlands, but he has not had his own stealth adventure in a decade. At least this game ended the series on a high note, as a reboot, with some of the best gameplay the series has ever seen. The campaign was killer but so were the co-op missions which were akin to a hoard mode. They weren’t original ideas but they were engaging with a buddy all the same.
1Tomb Raider
Tomb Raiderwas also a reboot for a long-running franchise. TheUnchartedseries borrowed fromTomb Raiderand in turnTomb Raiderborrowed fromUnchartedalong withResident Evil 4. It was a hodgepodge of ideas as it even had Metroidvania elements since Lara was trapped on an island that expanded with new tools she collected. This combo of genres worked well and revived what some thought was a dead franchise. Unlike Sam Fisher, Lara Croft did see more adventures as this became a trilogy.
