Just like the shark, two seagulls are the player’s constant companions inRaft. The gulls aren’t nearly as aggressive as the shark, though, and they’re a good source of feathers and food.

However, the trouble with getting those feathers is figuring out how to take down the seagulls. The two birds are constantly circling the raft, and moving targets are hard to hit even after a player crafts a bow and arrows. Plus there’s a good chance a struck bird will fall into the water and become hard to retrieve. Fortunately, there are several easy ways to lure the seagulls ofRaftdown into striking range.

Raft Attacking Gull

Crop Plots and Scarecrows

While seagulls will never attack humans, they will go after crops planted in the small or medium crop plots. The large plots grow trees, and these are too big to interest gulls. While crops are growing on the raft, every five minutes or so a seagull will descend and start trying to eat one of the plants.

Players can prevent this attack by running up to the bird and scaring it off, but doing so is a waste. Instead, players should attempt to stab the gull with a spear. A seagull can take two hits from a wooden spear or one hit froma metal or better spear, and while the gull will fly off after the first hit it will still be injured the next time it descends.

Raft Nesting Seagull

Once the seagull is down, players can loot the body for two handfuls of feathers and two drumsticks. Drumsticks aren’t as filling as shark meat, but they’re stilla valuable food source, especially if players can cook them.

Players who don’t want to risk their crops can build a scarecrow. Seagulls will always prioritize scarecrows standing next to crop plots, and they’ll end their attack after dealing some damage. Just like with crops, players can scare seagulls away to prevent this damage or kill the gull to get feathers and food.

Birds Nests

Another way to lure down seagulls is to build and place a bird nest. This item requires a rare giant clam, but once placed seagulls will regularly come down for a rest. It can be harder to spear a gull in a nest than one that’s attacking a scarecrow, but they becomemuch easier to hit with arrows.

On top of that, a seagull in a nest won’t attack the player’s crops and will sit in a nest for a long time if the player doesn’t scare it off. Also, a gull will leave behind one to three feathers in the nest depending on how long it sits, making it a nonviolent way to collect this resource.

The last way to collect feathers is to killa screecher, a large, dangerous birdthat sometimes shows up on large islands. But because of how dangerous and rare screechers are, killing seagulls is definitely the method players should use to gather feathers.
