Final Fantasy 16is easily one of the most anticipated PS5 exclusives of 2023, and recent comments suggest fans could learn more about it soon. However, the timing and past patterns of similar comments also potentially point to aPlayStation Showcase date.
Many fans have been expecting a PlayStation Showcase for weeks now. This event, which is usually much bigger than a State of Play, has taken place in September for the past three years. It’s here where fans can expect updates on games likeFinal Fantasy 16, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and so on. The event was originally rumored to take place on September 8, but that didn’t happen. And when Sony did announce an event, it was a State of Play and not a PlayStation Showcase. Recent rumors point to October 2022 now, which should be taken with a grain of salt, butFinal Fantasy 16may actually support this rumor.

Final Fantasy 16 + PlayStation Showcase: A Match Made in Heaven
First off, the PS Showcase taking place in October is based on rumor and hearsay, so it shouldn’t be taken as fact, but it does make sense since it doesn’t seem to be happening this month. According to one random account on the internet, Insomniac will reveal ’s Spider-Man 2in October, and obviously, a PS Showcase is the best presentation for such a reveal. It’s not hard to put 2 and 2 together here, butFinal Fantasy 16adds on to this. Yoshi-P recently said that fans COULD learn Fantasy 16in October, which is an odd hesitation. He doesn’t outright confirm it, but he says it could happen.
This language would suggest that something is in motion, and he can not speak to it happening 100%. Gaming events are always in motion, and it could be that Yoshi-P is referencing a possible PlayStation Showcase. It’s not just the timing though; the last time Yoshi-P made a reference like this, it was to another event. Back in May 2022, Yoshi-P said anewFinal Fantasy 16trailerwas ready, but for vague reasons he did not directly address, it could not be shown yet. In essence, it was waiting for a stage and come June 2022,Final Fantasy 16appeared at a State of Play.
This is a potential pattern, given Yoshi-P’s vague comments regarding both events. Just as he vaguely referenced the State of Play event and promised fans anFF16trailer, he is now saying learning more in October is possible and seemingly references the PS Showcase. It remains to be seen, of course, but fingers are crossed.
