Nintendo hasn’t hosted a proper Nintendo Direct presentation since last September, and with a general lack of new releases announced for the Switch, it seems like fans are due for one. The latest rumor is thatNintendowill host its next Nintendo Direct presentation at some point in February, and there are a few different reasons why some fans think that’s the case.
Last month,GameStop listed a number of unnamed SKUsfor upcoming software releases, which is something that’s usually followed by a Direct presentation. Unfortunately, January came and went with no Direct, and so those SKUs are still a mystery. Considering the history of GameStop SKUs being followed by Nintendo Direct presentations, it makes sense that a Nintendo Direct is just a matter of time.

The other reason why many believe that the next Nintendo Direct will be in February 2020 is due to recent leaks of Switch games. Prominent leaker Sabi has made a number of claims on Twitter recently about new games, leading some fans to think that these games could be announced at the next Nintendo Direct. Sabi has hinted that there are a number of Wii U ports on the way for the Switch, includingSuper Mario 3D WorldandThe Wonderful 101, plus anewMario Kartgame(or another racing title) for release at the end of the year. Sabi has been accurate with leaks in the past, but we must caution that none of this has been confirmed.
And finally, the third reason why many think Nintendo will host a Nintendo Direct in February 2020 is that the company has held its winter Direct presentations in February in the past. In fact, a Nintendo Direct presentation has been held in February every single year since 2012 with the exception of 2018.
While Nintendo hasn’t hosted a proper Nintendo Direct presentation this year yet, that doesn’t meant that the company has been silent on upcoming projects. Nintendo hosted aPokemonDirect in January that revealed theupcomingPokemon SwordandShieldexpansions, and it also held a special presentation to reveal Byleth as the finalSuper Smash Bros. UltimateDLC character.
Some fans may be satisfied by those deep dives intoPokemon SwordandShieldandSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, but others may be more concerned about future games. If the February 2020Nintendo Directdoes come to pass, here’s hoping it has plenty of exciting news for Switch owners.
