The story of the Van der Linde gang is what makes up the bulk ofRed Dead Redemption 2’s main campaign. As a prequel story to the firstRed Dead Redemption, many returning players were already aware of what would happen, but the specifics of the gang’s slow decline and the events that would set up the first game were as yet unknown.

Red Dead Redemption 2’s story is split into chapters, and each chapter sees the Van der Linde gang setting up a new camp to lie low at. These camps are the primary hubs for the game’s story, not only for main missions, but for interacting with fellow gang members and seeing them interact with each other.Red Dead Redemption 2has hundreds of interactions to see between gang membersat these camps, and each one is meant to reinforce and build on the characterization of the individual gang members.

Rockstar put a great deal of effort into making each member of the gang feel unique and distinct, and this extends into minor details many players may never have noticed. One such minor detail is that many members of the Van der Linde gang own unique hunting knives that are different tothe knives that the player can acquire inRed Dead Redemption 2. Now a Reddit user named ult1matum has compiled all of these unique knives into a single image.

Red Dead Redemption 2is full of these small details, and most players will likely never notice these knives, or perhaps never even see them equipped as most NPCs will never draw their knife except under specific circumstances. The gang’s unique knives do reflect certain attributes of their owners, however. Since the hunting knife is used for both killing enemies and skinning animals for the camp to eat, it is interesting to note which gang members have knives more suited to which activity.

Charles and Pearson are described in the game’s ending credits as the gang’s expert hunter and cook respectively, so it would make sense that they both have very sturdy wide knives meant for skinning animals. The player character, Arthur Morgan, also starts with a very standard looking hunting knife, but the player canfind more exotic knives while exploring the world ofRed Dead Redemption 2.

The most interesting and unique knife design, however, is that of Micah’s, as all the other gang members have bowie-style hunting knives and Micah seems to have only a double-edged dagger that wouldn’t be suitable for hunting and skinning animals. This reveals how much Micah plans on contributing to the camp’s food supply, but also, as many commenters under ult1matum’s post have pointed out, Micah’s knife looks far more suitable for stabbing people in the back.

Red Dead Redemption 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
