Now fans of the originalResident Evilhave set about making their own remake of the game. WhereasCapcom’sResident Evilremakewent for a photorealistic art style, this fan remake, dubbedResident Evil 96 Edition, imitates the look for the PS1 release, but with higher definition graphics. As seen in the video uploaded to YouTube by BriinsCroft, this gives the characters a blocky appearance that is true to how their character models looked in 1996.

Resident Evil 96 Editiongives the originalResident Evilgame a new camera perspective. Instead of the fixed camera angles that the originalResident Evilgame used back in the day, it uses a third-person, over-the-shoulder perspective. It’s basically a representation of what the original 1996Resident Evilgame would be like if it took its cues fromResident Evil 4’s style of gameplaywhile retaining its art style. It’s an interesting idea to say the least, andResident Evilfans can check out a nearly six minute long trailer to get an idea of what it would be like.
Resident Evilfans that are feeling nostalgic for the original game after watching the trailer should note thatResident Evil: Director’s Cutis available to play on PS4 and PS5for those with a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.Resident Evilfans with other modern platforms will have to opt forResident Evil HD Remaster, which is the high-def remaster of the 2002Resident Evilremake that makes some significant visual enhancements and quality of life improvements.
As far as newResident Evilgames go, Capcom is preparing to cap offResident Evil Villagewith a new expansion about Rose Winters set to drop this October. It also has theResident Evil Re:Versemultiplayer game in the pipeline, and next year, fans can look forward to a full-fledged remake ofResident Evil 4. Beyond these projects, rumors from reputable sources indicate that Capcom is already in themidst of developingResident Evil 9. According to the leaks,Resident Evil 9will end the story that started withResident Evil 7, but not much is known about the game in an official capacity.
