Resident Evil Villagerecently received the Winters’ Expansion which, among other things, adds a third-person perspective. It comes at just the right time, as it gives gamers a reason to revisit the title during Halloween. There are many pros and cons that come with the new perspective. It makes certain aspects of gameplay easier, asplayers have a wider view of Ethan Winters’ surroundings. However, it also places distance between Ethan and the player, and this makes the game lose some of its scare factor.

For gamers who found first-person too scary, or who are focused on skills over scares, the third-person mode is the perfect way to experienceResident Evil Villageagain. Players who want the socks frightened off them may find that the change in perspective dampens the horror, though not enough to stop it from being a terrifying game. Players can easily switch between the two modes and decide which one suits their gameplay style.

Resident Evil Village – Winters’ Expansion

Resident Evil Villagehit stores in 2021, and it centers on Ethan Winters as he searches for his daughter. His search has him crossing paths with terrifying creatures and murderous foes who have him scared witless. The game has been very well-received, with many critics labeling it one of thescariest entries in theResident Evilseries to date. Capcom is not done supporting it, and it has recently received DLC that, among other things, gives the game a third-person mode.

PlayingResident Evil Villagein third-person mode is quite transformative. The game more closely resembles the remakes ofResident Evil 2and3, and it gives players a wider perspective of the world around them. The central gameplay isn’t affected, and most of the cutscenes are presented from a first-person perspective. Ethan’s face also remains hidden. He does this by covering his face or turning away from the camera whenever players try to sneak a peek.

Which Resident Evil Village Perspective Is Scarier?

There are many pros and cons that come with either perspective. The third-person perspective that comes with theResident Evil Village Winters' Expansionis quite useful from a strategic perspective. Players get to see more of their peripherals, making it harder for enemies to creep up on them. It also gives players a wider view of their environment, and it feels less claustrophobic, which makes identifying enemies much easier. However, the third-person perspective also makes players feel somewhat removed from the action. It becomes easier to put distance between oneself and the action on the screen. For players who are aiming for speed runs, or who found the game too scary in first-person, the third-person perspective may be what they are looking for. For those who are seeking the scariest experience possible, the first-person mode still reigns supreme. It puts players directly in Ethan’s shoes, making players feel like every incoming blow is headed their way.

The Winters’ Expansion also beefs upResident Evil Villagewith a new story DLC calledShadows of Rosewhich is played from the perspective of Ethan’s daughter, Rose Winters. The expansion also adds characters to the Mercenaries mode. The game has been repackaged in theResident Evil Village Gold Editionwhich comes with the expansion as well the Trauma Pack DLC. It is one ofmany spooky games released in time for Halloween.

Resident Evil Villageis available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
