Rick and Mortyare back at it again this Sunday, though fans of the show will be pleased to know the last four episodes in season 6 might feature the duo returning to their roots thanks to Rick finally getting around to fixing his portal gun.

Before going on a six-week break,Rick and Mortypremiered its “Juricksic Mort” episode, with the main implication being that the series’ biggest plot device will be fully functional once more, according to the showrunners. Hence, this week’s episode, titled “Full Meta Jackrick,” might be the key for the show, although Scott Marder and Justin Roiland also took some time to answer some of the most hard-pressing questions viewers have surrounding this season.

During an interview withCNET, Marder, Roiland and several cast members touched upon these topics, explaining why the portal gun was out of service. “We really wanted to make it feel like what Evil Morty did in [season 5, episode 10] wasn’t just like a quick and easy thing,” Marder said. Plus, with Rick being Rick, he was putting off repairing it until the dinosaurs stepped in, allowing them to explore other ideas in the meantime. Marder also addressed one of the most talked-about moments in season six: the Venusian Wine that the two Beths drank in the bizarreRick and Morty season 6 episodetitled “Bethic Twinstinct.” “That was just supposed to be a silly joke,” he said, with no further implication like Rick dialing down his drinking habits.

Marder also made clear that fans who have enjoyed season 6 so far will get a kick out of the last four episodes. He said these few weeks will be really “action-packed” and went as far as saying, “One of the ones in these final four is like one of my absolute favorite episodes that the show’s done.” Those who’ve paid attention toRick and Morty’snew opening sequence this season will be excited to see if the showrunners deliver on those few shots of Jerry as anIron Man-like action hero.

The teaser for the second part of season 6 mostly featured scenes of a water world, a new bug acquaintance, and even Rick going to therapy, which indicates the show will continue its groundbreakingcharacter development forRick and Mortythis season. The showrunners also commented on Rick Prime’s next appearance, though they were unwilling to confirm if he’ll be back this year, but still guaranteeing fans will be seeing the series’ true villain in the future.

WhileRick and Mortyproved it will survive without the multiverseand constantly hopping from one planet or dimension to the next, Rick’s portal gun is intrinsic to him. After all, there’s a reason Rick’sMultiVersusmove set relies so much on that mechanic.

Rick and Mortyseason 6 resumes on Jul 18, 2025, on Adult Swim.
