There are a lot of ways to describeRick And Morty, and labeling it as one of the zaniest shows on television is probably accurate. Giving the titular characters the ability to travel anywhere and do anything, the story possibilities forRick And Mortyare seemingly endless. While the show is clearly right at home in animated form, some have wondered about a potential live-action movie.

Rick And Mortyoften feels like the kind of series that shouldn’t touch live-action, especially thanks to how much CGI a live-action movie would need. Despite that, the movie industry is at a point where pretty muchany story can be adapted into live-actionif the will, time, effort, and money are there. To make things all the more interesting, there actually has been at least one interesting tease that indicates aRick And Mortylive-action movie could work.

Is The Live-Action Rick And Morty Any Closer To Happening?

While there have been updates about a possibleRick And Mortymovie happening, there doesn’t seem to be any indication that it will be in a live-action format should one eventually arrive. This is even more of a surprise, considering the topic ofa live-action Rick And Morty has been on the minds of fansfor years now.Rick And Mortyco-creator Dan Harmon has actually made some interesting comments as of late, but his words make it seem as if a live-action movie is nothing but a dream. In an interview withthe Hollywood Reporter, Dan Harmon had this to say about a potentialRick And Mortymovie:

My philosophy would be to just take aRick and Mortyadventure, and spend a bunch of extra money on it and make it 90 minutes long.

Christopher Lloyd As Rick Rick and Morty

While this does sadly indicate that a live-action take on the series probably won’t be coming, that doesn’t mean a feature-length adventure isn’t. There is still plenty for fans to get excited about.

Has There Been A Live-Action Rick And Morty?

While there hasn’t been a full live-actionRick And Mortymovie or even a single episode of the series, fans have been gifted with something of a tease. In the lead-up to the close of the fifth season, the iconic Adult Swimreleased a video that shocked the world. Out of nowhere, a live-action Rick and Morty strolled through a portal to give fans a taste of what a real take would feel like through dimension C-132. Starring acting legend Christopher Lloyd and young Jaeden Martell, the short and simple clip sees the two playing on previous and iconicRick And Mortygags like Pickle Rick.

Interestingly, Christopher Lloyd has a deeper connection to the series than some may initially know. His role inBack To The Futureas Dr. Emmett Brown was an inspiration for the hit show. The entire series was based on an animated spoof of the characters fromBack To The Futureyears ago. It’s only fitting that Christopher Lloyd was picked to represent Rick in live-action for the first time, even if it was just a short to get fans excited. It’s clear that Lloyd had heard of the show before his appearance in the short. Inan interview with the Pheonix Times, he made it clear that the show seems like fun:

I don’t follow it closely, but I’ve seen a few episodes and I gotta tell you, I think it’s a lot of fun. I know it’s some kind of parody of Doc and Marty.

Would A Live-Action Rick And Morty Movie Work?

Whether a live-actionRick And Mortywould work depends on the perspective of the individual thinking about that question. For some, the show is animated for a reason: namely, the effects that would be required to produce even a single episode in live-action. Some might feel that having a couple of live-action characters in a room filled with CGI aliens would put the entire thingin some strange uncanny valley state. Then there’s the argument that the overall tone of the series just wouldn’t work in live-action, which would extend to the kinds of humor seen throughout.

However, the right creative team and enough money behind a project always have the chance to create gold, no matter how wacky the concept is. A live-action version of the hit show might have to stray from narrative threads, the tone, and the common types of humor, but it’s hard to say a movie wouldn’t work. Even for those who would believe a live-action movie couldn’t work,an over-the-top campy takethat refuses to change anything and works on a low budget could manage to stand out.

Until it’s brought into reality, there is never going to be a solid answer to whether or not a live-action version of the series could be attempted. But if the short with Christopher Lloyd and Jaeden Martell is anything to go on, there certainly are actors out there who can capture the feeling ofRick and Morty.

When it comes to casting a live-action take onRick And Morty, fans have come up with some creative answers. Unsurprisingly, many lovedthe casting of Christopher Lloydand Jaeden Martell, but there are other surprising names that come up in discussion. Many fans suggest that the voices of Beth and Jerry, Sarah Chalke and Chris Parnell, could be great candidates to play the live-action versions of their characters.

A famous fan-cast for Rick Sanchez the beloved Peter Capaldi, famous for playing the Twelfth Doctor inDoctor Who. Some great choices for Summer have been Chloë Grace Moretz and even Bella Thorne. Additional popular options for Jerry and Bethare Elizabeth Banksand Ed Helms. Interestingly, it seems like the least agreed-on casting is for Morty. While Jaeden Martell has historically been the most mentioned name, Morty also has the most other potential castings across the web. The young age of the character makes him hard to cast, and the potential candidates are ever-changing, but some other picks seem to be Jacob Tremblay or Jack Dylan Grazer.
