There’s been a lot of hype for the upcomingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Acting similarly to how 2019’sModern Warfarewas a reboot of the original game,Modern Warfare 2will also build on elements from the 2009 title. For example, the infamousNo Russian mission fromModern Warfare 2will again be making an appearance, except this time the campaign level will be even more disturbing than its original version. Of course, this is but one among many changes and updates the remasteredModern Warfare 2will bring when it launches later this year.
Eager fans are hoping they won’t have to wait until the official launch date to be able to playCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and rumors of a beta have been circulating ever since Activision first unveiled the shooter. Previously, it was rumored via an Amazon leak that theModern Warfare 2beta could be arriving as early as August 2022. However, since that leak dropped another prominent leaker has given their own opinion on when players will get their hands on an early version ofModern Warfare 2.

According to RalphValves, who has had his claims backed up via Tom Henderson on Twitter, theCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2beta will be coming in September, not August. These claims were backed up with a proposed roadmap for the beta, which would see it begin as a PlayStation Exclusive with Early Access starting on September 15th before the Open Beta drops on September 17th. For cross-play, the open beta would begin on September 24th and end by the 26th.
Essentially, this would give fans about one month between the beta ending andModern Warfare 2’srelease date. Also, according to RalphValves, August will still have some significance when it comes toModern Warfare 2. Except, rather than it being the time when fans first get their hands on the game, it will instead be a month for multiplayer reveals, events, and new information dropping.
Considering the earlier release date ofModern Warfare 2,many fans expected that a beta would launch earlier in the year as well. Some even wished forCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2to have multiple betas, so fans could get some initial thoughts about the game before launch. With the beta dropping so late compared to the release date, it seems Activision may be aiming for theCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2beta to act more as a soft launch than anything else. However, that is only the case should these rumors be true, and fans will only get confirmation on that from the developers.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2launches on October 28 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
