Although Activision claims that it has no plans to bring multiplayer and Spec Ops to the recently releasedCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, a popular online leaker believes that multiplayer is on the way for the beloved shooter.
As the name implies,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remasteredcomes with the campaign alone. But the original title is one of the more beloved games in the series and is considered one of the most complete games of its genre. The campaign is excellent, but the frantic multiplayer is good for endless hours of fun, and the Spec Ops co-op mode adds wonderful value.

The leaker, TheGamingRevolution, wassuspended once from Twitter for accurateWarzoneleaks, which could validate his information. He claims that his source is telling him that the multiplayer is actively in the development stage and is currently being testing forModern Warfare 2 Remastered.
Activision is already off on a bad foot when it comes to the release ofModern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, asfans are unhappy with the one-month exclusivity for the PS4. Adding multiplayer at some point would certainly be a way to win back fans. Although, if multiplayer had exclusivity to it as well, people may not be happy again.
Some may wonder if the multiplayer of the game would hold up after all these years. Theinfamous “No Russian” mission doesn’t have the same appeal as it once did. But with games likeModern WarfareandWarzonein place, theCall of Dutyfranchise could be able to handle balance and fair play in those titles, andMW2 Remasteredmultiplayer can just be old-school chaotic fun.
Recent rumors also point toModern Warfare 3being remastered, and it’s fair to wonder if the game will go down the campaign only route, or if it will get the full repainting ala the originalModern Warfare Remastered(Call of Duty 4) back in 2016 (there are a lot ofModern Warfaregames right now). Perhaps Activision is looking to see how successfulModern Warfare 2 Campaign Remasteredis, and waiting to release the multiplayer at a later date.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remasteredis out now for PS4, with a PC and Xbox One version launching on April 30.
