Even thoughCall of Duty: Vanguardhas yet to launch, leaks have already started popping up about the2022Call of Dutygame, rumored to be titledCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. This supposed sequel to the 2019Call of Duty: Modern Warfaregame is said to be in development at Infinity Ward, and while an official announcement hasn’t been made, many of the leaks have come from reputable sources.
The latestCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2leak comes from TheMW2Ghost, a Twitter account that has accurately leakedCall of Dutynews in the past. If TheMW2Ghost’s information is accurate, it seems thatCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2will be bringing back classic, fan favorite multiplayer maps from the original 2009Modern Warfare 2game. TheMW2Ghost implied as much with a tweet showing screenshots of classicModern Warfare 2maps with a hashtag for MWII. According to the rumors, the newCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2will actually be titledModern Warfare IIwith Roman numeralsas a way to differentiate it from the original game.
The maps in question are some of the most popular maps from the originalModern Warfare 2game: Afghan,Highrise, Favela, and Terminal. And while it will likely be at least a year, if not longer, until fans find out if these maps are coming toCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see at least some of them make the cut.
As some may recall, there were numerous leaks for the 2019Call of Duty: Modern Warfaregame that insisted thatmaps likeMW2’s Terminalwould be getting remastered for the game. These leaks came from reputable sources as well as datamining efforts, yet it never actually happened. However,Call of Duty: Modern Warfarestill featured plenty of remastered maps, and so it stands to reason that the 2022Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2will have plenty of remastered maps of its own.
IfCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2is bringing back these classic multiplayer maps as rumored, it will be interesting to see how many will be in the game at launch and how many will be released as post-launch content. If other recentCall of Dutygames are any indication, it’s likely that the remastered maps will be saved for post-launch updates, like we’re seeing withShipment inCall of Duty: Vanguard.
