When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, plenty of people sought out games to escape the state of the world for a few hours every day. One of the games which became a sensation seemingly overnight as a result, and is still a presence online for players and content creators, isAmong Us. And as a result, the deception game has been finding its way to more platforms. One of these platforms is virtual reality, and if a new leak turns out to be true, it may end up coming toSteamjust in time for the holidays.
Among Usis a social deduction game, in the vain of the party gameMafia, originally released in 2018 on Android, iOS, and PC. The game’s success came in 2020 as a result of the pandemic and big-name content creators like Pokimane, xQcOW, Valkyrae, DisguisedToast, and others playing the game fairly regularly for almost a year. In the wake of the success, developer Innersloth ported the game to Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 in December 2021 before announcing a virtual reality iteration developed in partnership with Schell Games.

Among Us VRwas announced as part of the 2021 Game Awards, though no release date or window was set at that time. However, a new alleged leak shared on SteamDB says the current Steam release date is set for June 14, 2025. The site does point out, though, that this information could be wrong and neither Schell Games nor Innersloth has made any official announcement.
Presuming this leak is correct, a holiday release window would not be a surprising choice forInnerslothand Schnell Games. The holidays are typically one of the busiest release windows of the year for the games industry as developers and publishers attempt to take advantage of the Thanksgiving and Christmas shopping rush.
However, this is a double-edged sword as a game likeAmong Us VRcould end up getting lost in the proverbial shuffle among a sea of massive game launches during the same time. The release window has, historically, been dominated by massive titles likeMadden,Call of Duty, andAssassin’s Creed, to name a few, pulling consumers' in multiple directions. Smaller projects, likeAmong Us VR, could end up having any potential audience cannibalized before they can find any solid footing.
The biggest aspect working inAmong Us VR’s favor, though, is the sustained success of theOculus Quest 2. According to Meta, the VR headset sold over 8.7 million units in 2021, and sales continued to look strong heading into 2022. If sales remain solid for the rest of the year,Among Us VRhas a chance of finding success when it releases.
Among Usis currently available on Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
