During Nintendo’s E3 2021 Direct, the publisher showed off more of Atlus’Shin Megami Tensei 5, detailing the upcoming RPG’s story and revealing brand new gameplay. The trailer also included an official release date for the game, confirming it’ll make its way to theNintendo Switchon November 12.

Shin Megami Tensei 5’ssetup will already sound very familiar to fans of the series, with the footage revealing it follows a high school student who’s mysteriously transported to a realm of angels and demons. Merging with a cryptic figure who emerges from a beam in the sky, the nameless protagonist quickly amasses the power to fight the monsters that lurk in this eerie alternate version of Tokyo.

Players will venture through this apocalyptic dimension, battling enemies in turn-based encounters and using their newfound abilities to exploit their weaknesses. As has become a fixture of theShin Megami Tenseiseries, they’ll also be able to recruit foes into their party, negotiating with monsters in high-stakes trades. One of these interactions is highlighted during the trailer, with the protagonist offering a portion of her life in exchange for a demon’s alliance.

Much like inAtlus' prior games, they’ll then be able to fuse their roster of creatures together to make even more powerful demons, exploiting their advanced abilities in combat. They’ll need them too, with the game sure to have plenty of challenging boss fights which will require them to push their party of demons to the limit. Overall, the fifth entry seems to be expanding upon all the systems that madeShin Megami Tenseisuch a beloved series, making it one to watch as it closes in on its release date later this year.

Nintendo’s E3 showcase came loaded with fresh looks at the company’s biggest upcoming titles, the vast majority of which will launch this Fall.The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2capped off the show, with Eiji Anouma confirming the game will expand upwards, with new sky-based environments for players to enjoy. It’s aiming to launch sometime next year. Meanwhile,Metroid Dreadwas finally announced after a decade of rumors, with the game slated to be the first 2D take on the series in 19 years. Those were far from the only huge reveals, with newMario PartyandWarioWaregames also showcased during the Direct. The company seems to be prepped to have a huge presence in the latter months of the year.
