Anyone who’s playedSkyrimknows the first thing that kicks off the story is the journey to Helgen, but a glitch experienced by a player recently suggests the Dragonborn may have been inadvertently saved from certain doom. WhileThe Elder Scrolls 5is hugely popular and successful, it is agame that takes a while to get going. This is largely due to its pretty extensive introduction which, after more than a decade, some fans have seen countless times.

One of the other reasons Bethesda’s 2011 epic RPG is still in the spotlight today is the fact thatSkyrimhas sort of become a meme over the years. Pretty much since day one, the game has managed to cement itself in gaming pop culture with references to arrows in knees, sweet rolls, and many other quotes. On top of that, for better or worse,TES5is also pretty infamous for its laundry list of bugs. While many of these are harmless or even funny, there are some that can halt progress even right at the start.

Take Reddit user OlivesPlum06 as an example. In a recent post, theSkyrimplayer uploaded footage from their playthrough that shows the iconic opening sequence. At least, that’s what should have occurred, but a bug was preventing the story from progressing. The clip shows the player inside the horse-drawn cart, but the leading horse is not walking forward. Instead, the equine creature is simply swaying while stationary, the cart going nowhere. This left the player wondering whether the Dragonborn was going to make it to their execution or not.

It’s no secret to anyone who’s played the game for any length of time thatSkyrimhas a roster of glitches. As mentioned earlier, many are more immersion breaking than they are serious. However, for a lot of fans, it is curious that some of the more glaring examples have not been ironed out by Bethesda, especially given that the studio has re-releasedTES5on a number of occasions. On the other hand, bugs such as the one OlivesPlum06 experienced are perhaps part ofSkyrim’s charm and legacy.

In any case, the game is still going strong after more than 11 years. It’s also looking likeThe Elder Scrolls 6is still years away from release, so gamers are still keeping themselves entertained with the current installment. It will be interesting to see whether the next entry in the fantasy series will have as many bugs that will amuse players for a long time.
