While a lot ofSkyrimmodders are keen to add custom quests and characters, fix bugs, or just keep the overall visuals looking pretty, there are some who are honing in on the finer details by perfecting the cabbages. Thelegacy ofThe Elder Scrolls 5cannot be overstated, and although many feel the game has more than outstayed its welcome, Bethesda’s epic RPG continues to a top position among open-world fantasies for many gamers.

Much of that has to do with the developer continuing to re-release the game, either as new editions or when new console generations launch. However, this longevity can also be attributed to the community itself, which is dedicated to creating its own custom content to help improve the game, though not all mods benefit the immersive experience. There aresome pretty weird mods available forSkyrim, such as the one that converts Shouts into farts or the one that swaps giant spiders for a creepy-looking Spider-Man. Then there are other mods that seem to border on obsessive.

There are a number ofSkyrimmodders who have taken it upon themselves to verify the game’s cabbages look as realistic as they possibly can. A recent YouTube video from user wSkeever shows comparisons between a number of mods that have been made specifically to improve the visuals of the leafy green vegetable. One such example is from Kreiste over on Nexus Mods. With their “Cabbage - A Cabbage Mod,” they have managed to increase the detail to 737 vertices and 1,316 triangles. This is quite the jump, considering the vanilla cabbages have only 148 vertices and 200 triangles. However, when using the “High Poly Project” mod, it’s possible to increase this to a whopping 27,351 vertices and 31,834 triangles, according to the video.

It’s not quite clear why some people are eager to improve the texture of this particular vegetable.VanillaSkyrimis still quite beautiful, even after all these years, but there’s no denying that it’s aged since it launched more than 11 years ago. Given this, it makes sense that modders would want to come along and give the game a graphical leg-up. It just doesn’t quite explain why cabbages have become some people’s focus.

It’s even possible tomodSkyrimso much that it looks almost real. Of course, doing so would be quite detrimental to many people’s PCs, but it shows that the modding community is not tired of improving on Bethesda’s original formula. It’s also an example of just how far video game visuals have come over the years.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimis available now on PC, PS3, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
