Players ofSonic Superstarswho hope to reach the true ending are going to need to do a lot of exploring and clear both of the game’s story modes. This means completing every level in the game (except for the ‘Fruit’ Acts) to unlock Trip’s Story. Once that’s done, players will need to complete Trip’s Story which features harder levels and an incredibly brutal final boss.
Sonic Superstarsintroduces Emerald Powers to the Sonic formula, allowing players to explore levels in new ways as they acquire more Chaos Emeralds. Players are going to need all of these powers to navigate Trip’s Story and reach the Final Story since Trip’s Story regularly features obstacles that can be overcome using Emerald Powers.

Step 1: Finish the Story
Before players can unlock the True Ending, they will, naturally, need to reach the normal ending. This means completing each of the game’s actsexcept for the ‘Fruit’ acts. After defeating the Death Egg Robot and sprinting through the game’s playable Credits sequence, players will be able to play as Trip and access “Trip’s Story” from the main menu.
Step 2: Gather the Chaos Emeralds
In order to access the Final Story, players will need the seven Chaos Emeralds. It’s probably best to do this before taking on Trip’s Story, since the Emerald Powers will make her Story much easier to handle. Since there’s a full guide available on how to get the Chaos Emeralds, available here, this guide won’t elaborate on all the little details.
Step 3: Finish Trip’s Story
Now that the Chaos Emeralds are collected,it’s time to take on Trip’s Story.Players will need to traverse harder versions of the game’s zones and acts to deal with Eggman Robots and Fang’s continued presence on the North Star Islands. These remixed levels tend to be considerably easier when players make good use of Emerald Powers, hence the suggestion to gather them first. Players will also have to deal with a new and much more dangerous final boss.
Step 4: Fight the Dark Dragon
With all the previous steps completed, players will now be able to access “Final Story” on the main menu. This opens with a cutscene, showing a Dark Dragon rising from the ocean.Players will be dropped into the level select/world map as Super Sonic with only a single level to select.
General Strategy and Controls
When playing as Super Sonic during this fight, players are able to freely fly in any direction. The Jump button now expends rings to boost, which can be useful in emergencies but uses too many rings to be relied upon entirely. If Sonic runs out of Rings in this fight, he will fall from the sky and the fight will be immediately lost. Tails, Knuckles, and Amy will show up delivering extra rings throughout the battle, and if Sonic flies directly into one of his friends, he will receive 10 bonus rings in addition to the ones they leave on the battlefield. Amy is particularly valuable here since she drops ring boxes containing 10 rings each.
Phase 1 Attacks
The Dark Dragon begins the fight by firing meteors into the sky. Players should fly to the left or right, evading the falling meteors, until a blue meteor appears. Players can ram into this meteor to launch it into the Dark Dragon and deal some damage to it.
The Dark Dragon will also periodically roar and fill the area with blue crystal walls. Players should fly into these crystals and destroy as many as possible before the dragon roars and turns them red. It’s important to create a safe area to fly around in since the red crystals will stun Sonic and drain his rings on impact. After a second, the red crystals will shatter, sending fragments flying in all directions which players will need to dodge.

The Dragon will sometimes fly in close, changing the perspective and firing out black holes from its mouth. Players need to fly to the right side of the screen, dodging the black holes, and ram into the Dragon to deal damage to it and end this attack early. If Sonic gets trapped in a black hole he can boost out of it, but this drains a lot of Rings, so it should be considered a last resort.
Continue to damage the Dragon whenever possible and eventually, Phase 2 will begin.

Phase 2 Attacks
When the Dragon enters Phase 2, it will begin performing claw swipes that project large purple energy claws. Players can dodge these by flying upward and away from the direction of the swipe. The Dragon will alternate hands while swinging, allowing players to read the timing and direction of its swipes by watching its hands in the background.
The Dragon can curl into a ball, reminiscent of the Spin Dash, and then launch itself off to the side of the screen. Players should watch the direction and point it leaves the screen from and fly away from that direction since the Dragon will return from that side and dash across the screen in a straight line. As long as players are flying away from that direction, there should be just enough time to dodge.

The Dragon can spit out large blue energy rings that will stun Sonic on impact, but players can dodge them by flying into the space in the center of each ring, or by flying to the edge of the ring and escaping its range entirely. It usually follows this attack with its fireball attack, as described below.
The Dragon will move in close and attack from the right side of the screen with fireballs. Players have to alternate between high and low positions to dodge them and move toward the Dragon to hit it. This is the best opportunity to damage the Dragon during Phase 2.

After inflicting enough damage, the Dragon will begin strafing in the background and spitting meteors towards the screen. A targeting cursor will appear around them, reminiscent of the Homing Attack found in Modern Sonic games. Sure enough, hitting the jump button as they get closer will allow Sonic to home in on them and shatter them. After breaking enough of them, the dragon will spit a beam of flames that can be avoided by circling around. Once the beam is dodged, a final Homing Attack target will appear on the Dragon, allowing Sonic to charge in and end the fight.
