It has been a crazy few months since thePS5first leaked and was eventually officially announced by Sony. With the announcement ofan SSD that eliminates load timesand haptic feedback in Sony’s most advanced controllers to date, there is plenty for fans to look forward to, even if they still haven’t seen any hardware.

However, according to an interview with Business Insider Japan, Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan has confirmed that Sony still hasn’t revealed some of thePS5’s biggest features. Considering how little the company has released so far about the Next-Gen console, it isn’t hard to believe that there is more that Sony has been keeping under the radar until now.

According to the interview, Ryan claims that while the new SSD and the newcontrollers' haptic feedbackare enough of a game changer to completely redefine gaming, this still only scratches the surface of what PS5 brings to the table. Ryan explains in the interview that the new controllers and the systems 3D sound are enough to transform games likeGran Turismo Sportin a way that players will never want to return to older consoles from. In Ryan’s own words:

“Each time a new console is released, the processor and graphics improve. Those are enticing of course, but we need to have special appeals as well. We have already confirmed the use of an solid-state drive. Having load times that are next to nothing is a major change. 3D audio and the haptic feedback support of the controller are also things that, when you try them, you will be surprised at how big a change they are. Even just playing the racing game Gran Turismo Sport with a PlayStation 5 controller is a completely different experience. While it runs well with the previous controller, there is no going back after you experience the detailed road surface via haptic control and play using the adaptive triggers. But you know. There are still more unique elements for PlayStation 5 to come that separate it from previous consoles. The ‘bigger differences’ have yet to be announced.”

If Ryan is to be believed, the PS5 will likely be taking a similar approach to the initial reveal of the Xbox One, where the draw was meant to be the all-in-one features that made current-gen consoles the multimedia entertainments systems they eventually became. Hopefully, when Sony does finally reveal these new features, it’ll be better received than Microsoft’s 2013 E3 conference. Unfortunately, the slow burn that has been the PS5’s reveal has seemingly been testing the patience of fans as they’ve begun to lash out at Sony’s silence and accusing thePS5 logo of being lazy.

At the moment, whatever new features Ryan is speaking about in the interview, it’ll be some time until players get to see exactly how impressive they are. With almost a year until the release window of the PS5, there is plenty of time for Sony to put every feature the system will have on full display. However, withSony having skipped E3 last year, it’s hard to say what the company will consider to be the best time to make this kind of announcement.
