Destiny 2’s one and only Fallen vendor, Spider, hasn’t experienced any changes for quite some time now, butBungieclaims that the upcomingBeyond Lightexpansion is going to fix that. The developer states that the black-market dealer has finally decided to change up his materials now thatDestiny 2’s guardians are preparing to venture out into Europa.
Bungie details these changes in its latest blog post, along with several others that will be happening toDestiny 2whenSeason of the Huntbegins. For various reasons, the update will mainly change up Spider’s wares by removing the Legendary Shards that he currently sells and adjusting how he handles the Enhancement Core exchange. Spider will also be the individual player’s go-to if they want to exchange Phaseglass Needles, Alkane Dust, Simulation Seeds, and Seraphite for Glimmer.

In place of Legendary Shards, Spider will now sell Enhancement Prisms, but due to their incredibly high value, these items will cost 400 Legendary Shards per Prism, and players will only be able to purchase three Prisms a week. As for the Enhancement Core exchange, Bungie has removed the ascending cost mechanism from it. Instead, Spider will now sell five Enhancement Cores a day, with each core priced at 30 Legendary Shards.
Bungie provided its reason for these changes for anyone wondering. It removed the Legendary Shard sale because of how little it saw theDestinycommunityusing it when compared to other offers. The developer also wanted to allow players to exchange their Legendary Shards for goods more valuable than planetary materials and Upgrade Modules.
Regarding the Cores, Bungie understands the new change limits how many of them players can receive in a day, but it believes having a more consistent price for the items will offer a “cleaner experience.” It also claims that the new model is cheaper than the ascending one, as it will allow players to save 160Legendary Shards for every five Enhancement Cores.
These changes have met with mixed reception from theDestinycommunity. For example, some can’t help but notice how 400 Legendary Shards is quite the price tag, one that caters to those wealthy in the currency (something Bungie notes in the TWAB). It doesn’t help that players can think of ways to get the items for cheaper. Still, it remains a mystery how exactly these changes — combined with others — will affect the game moving forward. There are less than two weeks left beforeBeyond Lightlaunches, so players don’t have that long of a wait to find out.
Destiny 2is on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version in development.
