Summary
The few constants in life are death, taxes, andStar Wars. There will always be moreStar Warsshows, movies, books, games, weird tongue-shaped lollipops, etc. So even during an important strike in Hollywood demanding fair pay for the writers and actors, this particular steam train is still managing to maintain a sliver of momentum.
Aside from his work onStranger Things,Deadpool 3director Shawn Levyalso has aStar Warsmovie loading into the chamber. One might not expect to see much crossover between The Merc with a Mouth and the premiere science-fantasy adventure film franchise. But clearly, someone saw something in his work that made the choice seem obvious. So when asked whether thisStar Warsmovie will still happen once the strike is over, he had some reassuring words for curious fans.

In an interview withCollider, Levy spoke about several of his upcoming projects. Naturally,Star Warstook top billing. “We were just starting the process of developing my movie, and the writer strike happened,” he explained. “So we are in that holding pattern that so much of our industry is in.” No need for fans to worry. Despite Hollywood remaining at a standstill until the strike is resolved, many projects like Levy’sStar Warsmovie have simply been shifted to the backburner rather than being completely canceled. But that’s not the only one.
Levy’sStar Warsfilm is one of the more curious upcoming entries in the franchise, and that’s already aside from its director also helming an R-rated comedy superhero movie. WhileDeadpool 3is clearly among his most high-profile projects (along with his acclaimed work onStranger Things), many forget he directed a rather interesting film known asReal Steel. FeaturingDeadpool 3’s Hugh Jackmanin a movie about robot boxing,Real Steelgained enough of a cult following that Levy has been working on a series based on the film. Of course, it’s currently facing similar setbacks. “Same, I could literally say, ‘See above.’ Same,” Levy said when asked whether theReal Steelseries was still on the agenda as well. “I want it as badly as the lovers ofReal Steelwant it, so alive, [but] paused.”
BetweenDeadpool 3andReal Steel, along with his previous projects like theRyan Reynolds vehicleFree Guyand theNight at the Museumseries of films, Levy has a rather eclectic resume leading up to hisStar Warsmovie. These days, he’s largely known as the guy who directs Reynolds, but it’s worth taking a look back at his other past works to think about what fans can expect in a galaxy far, far away. Perhaps his slightly more serious efforts likeThe Adam Projectcould be an apt indicator.
However theStar Warsmovie turns out, it’ll still be a while. The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike in Hollywood has put countless projects on hold, but it’s very much worth the inconvenience. The writers and actors deserve fair pay for their work, and ifthe strike has to spread to the video game industryso those workers are paid what they’re owed as well, so be it. Here’s hoping the studios finally see reason.
