Star Wars: The Old Republicis an MMO set 300 years or so after the events ofStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. While not set exactly in the same time period, fans of BioWare’s classic RPG may find some similarities in the 2011 MMO.Star Wars: The Old Republicseeks to continue the stories of the RPGs, for example, as well as featuring somerich lore from theStar Warsuniversethousands of years before the events of the films take place.
WhileStar Wars: The Old Republichas not always pleased its fans, since its release it has consistently provided new updates for players, further expanding on the story and giving them a reason to come back. According to BioWare, a large part of the creative process inStar Wars: The Old Republic’supdates and expansions such as The Rise of the Hutt Cartel and Legacy of the Sith was Creative Director Charles Boyd, who announced recently that he will soon be leaving BioWare.

Boyd began his career at BioWare working as a writer for the MMO back in 2006, helping work on the story of the Trooper, one of themain classes inStar Wars: The Old Republic. Boyd then went on to become a Lead Writer forStar Wars: The Old Republicin 2013 before being promoted to Creative Director in 2016. “Even after almost sixteen years,” Boyd said regarding his departure. “I still can’t fully believe how lucky I’ve been to work onStar Wars: The Old Republic.” Speaking further on his experience with the team working on the MMO, Boyd stated: “I don’t think I can ever fully express how much I’ve admired and appreciated working with them every single day.”
BioWare’s General Manager also remarked on Boyd’s departure, saying thatStar Wars: The Old Republicis left in “excellent hands.” He also noted that work will continue onStar Wars: The Old Republiceven as BioWare moves onto thenextMass EffectandDragon Agegames. Despite theStar WarsMMO being over ten-years old, BioWare remains committed to delivering new content for the game.
The next update coming toStar Wars: The Old Republicis proof of that as it will release on August 2, giving players access to new Daily Missions and Operations as well as making some system improvements. Also, there will be “key revelations” aboutSith Lord Darth Malgus, who has appeared inStar Wars: The Old Republicsince the game first launched and is a key part of the Legacy of the Sith expansion.
