A recently released mod forHogwarts Legacyallows players to play as CJ, the protagonist fromGTA: San Andreas. Fans are already creating a huge amount of mods forHogwarts Legacy, and some are clearly stranger than others.

Despite the game’s controversial launch,Hogwarts Legacyhas sold extremely wellin the weeks following its release. For many, J.K. Rowling’s transphobic comments had switched them off theHarry Potterfranchise entirely, with some partaking in a boycott of the latest entry to the Wizarding World. However, the position of developer Avalanche Software has been one of maintaining a distance from Rowling, as the company risked alienating players by associating with her. It remains to be seen how the situation develops as Avalanche Software continues its association with theHarry Potterfranchise. In the meantime, many fans have taken it upon themselves to introduce new content through mods.

The mod titled “Carl Johnson (CJ) was released onto the Nexus by author norskpl, and replaces all male heads in-game with CJ’s body. It isn’t perfect yet, as the vanilla clothing in the game overlaps with the model, making CJ look like a Hogwarts student. To avoid this, players can remove all clothing in the game’s Gear menu, and make their character bald. This will allow players to play as the CJ they know and love fromGTA: San Andreas. While the mod is funny, it clearly takes players out of the experience, but there are plenty of similar mods being released for the game. Another strange mod released forHogwarts Legacyadds Thomas the Tank Engineto the game, which might even be more bizarre than seeing CJ at Hogwarts.

While this mod is clearly not intended to be taken seriously, there are still plenty of mods being released for the game that are genuinely useful additions, providing new content and accessibility options for players. One modder even added anArachnophobia Mode toHogwarts Legacy, an option that has been coming as standard for some titles that feature spiders. As modders get more familiar with the game’s engine, these types of useful mods will only become more impressive in scale.

With its successful launch, the future looks bright forHogwarts Legacyand fans of theHarry Potterfranchise. The game won’t be showing up on the speedrunning circuit any time soon, afterGames Done Quick bannedHogwarts Legacyfrom its speedrunning marathons, but the developer will be encouraged by its early sales numbers. Players will now hopefully be able to look forward to great post-launch support from Avalanche Software, with plenty of DLC coming before any sequel is unveiled.

Hogwarts Legacyis now available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with PS4 and Xbox One versions coming April 4 and the Switch version launching on July 25.
