As for the trailer, there’s a lot of new content not shown at the Future Games Show that makes the cut in this new slice of footage, including a better look at the game’s horrifying foes and how to defeat them. Serenaded by a haunting rendition of the traditional Welsh song Calon Lan, the trailer focuses on the impeccably designed environments that will feature inMaid of Sker, including dark basements, crimson-lit exteriors, sinister laboratories, and several other, demonic-looking locations. The footage also establishes a number of the title’s more prevalent mechanics, includingstealth encountersthat surround remaining quiet around blind foes, light combat with weaponized sonic equipment, and what appears to be a series of intricate puzzles.

The trailer also spends a considerable amount of time highlightingMaid of Sker’screepy antagonists, with the faceless, blind monsters that stalk the player taking centre stage. The trailer’s ending seems to imply that there will be different forms of these towering foes as well, with a much bigger, more powerful enemy smashing through a wall and approaching the player as they sneak through a corridor.

Maid of Skeris shaping up to be a unique and interesting take on the survival horror genre that blends Welsh folklore and modern game mechanics to an astonishing degree. With the title releasing in just a few weeks, its clear horror fans have a good few months ahead of them, withMaid of Skerjoining the likes ofThe Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope,Little Nightmares 2,andAmnesia: Rebirthas some essential horror experiences rounding out 2020.

Maid of Skerwill be available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on July 28.
