10The Context Of The Story

Jedi: Fallen Orderfollows the journey of Cal Kestis as he hides on the planet Bracca working as a ship scrapper. Cal’s once-secret identity is exposed after he uses the Force to save his friend Prauf, which draws the attention of Imperial Inquisitors.

Cal had abandoned his path towards becoming a Jedi Knight due to his tragic past, centered around the betrayal of the Jedi Order during the execution of Order 66 at the hands of Darth Sidious.

Order 66 was pivotal in the history of theStar Warsuniverse, a moment that disrupted the balance of power and almost wiped the Jedi Order from existence. It was a secret strategy identifying all Jedi as traitors to the Republic and subjected them to execution. This was effective as the clone army were implanted with behavioral modification chips, preventing the Jedi from swaying them against their orders.

What resulted from the order by Emperor Palpatine would be the calculated execution of allJedi and their young Padawan. The events ofJedi: Fallen Orderoccur 5 years after this catastrophic event, which dictated the Cal’s movements and the secrecy he bore whilst hiding on Bracca.

8Holocrons

The story ofJedi: Fallen Orderis centered around Cal and his companions locating a holocron that was hidden by Cere’s former master, Eno Cordova. A holocron is an ancient vessel of knowledge that is only able to accessible by a skilled Force-user. These were used by both Jedi and Sith to store knowledge and preserve information for future generations.

The holocron Cal seeks inJedi: Fallen Ordercontains the identity of a countless number of Force sensitive children. As Order 66 aimed to wipe out all Jedi, this holocron wasparticularly dangerous in the wrong hands. Thankfully, Cal would be the one to find it and decided to destroy it, proclaiming that the Force would determine the destiny of the children contained in the vessel.

7Force Echos

The Force is a constant in allStar Warslore, it is everywhere around you and, as such, serves an endless number of purposes, with many speculating that its full potential may never be truly revealed. InJedi: Fallen Order, we are introduced toa rarer application of the Force, known as Psychometry.

Still a Padawan, Cal uses Psychometry as a means of unlocking his long-forgotten lessons as he traverses the galaxy. With this skill, Cal is able to draw memories from objects and re-live the narratives stored within them. In the game, these serve as opportunities for players to learn new abilities for use as the story progresses, as well as unveiling hidden truths about both his allies and his adversaries.

6Cere

Cere Junda and her companion Greez first appear in the game on their shipMantis,rescuing Cal during a one-sided duel with the Second Sister. We learn throughout the game that Cere is a former Jedi who severed her connection to the Force following the events of Order 66.

As the game progresses, players uncover that Cere was tortured for information, eventually revealing the location of her Padawan, Trilla. Believing Trilla to be long-gone, Cere was shocked to discover that her former student had joined the Dark Side as a member of the Imperial Inquisitorius. The game concludes with Cal destroying the holocron on board theMantis, leaving the four members of the crew toconsider their next movements together.

5Merrin

Merrin is a Nightsister that Cal encounters on the planet Dathomir. At first, she is an adversary that attempts to protect her homeland from the foreign visitors using the corpses of her fallen sisters. However, as the game progresses her distrust for the Jedi surfaces, stemming from her experiences with Taron Malicos, a former Jedi Knight that turned to the Dark Side and became leader of the Nightbrother clan that resided in Dathomir.

With Merrin’s help, Cal defeats Malicos and releases Dathomir from his grip, restoring peace to her homeland. After earning her trust, Cal convinces Merrin to join theMantiscrew and help to save the innocent children contained within the Holocron.

4Jaro Tapal

Despite falling at the hands of an ambush from a troop of clones during Order 66, Jaro Tapal is an important figure in the story and in Cal’s character development. Cal’s former mentor taught him the ways of the Force and provided him with the guidance he needed to realize his potential as a Jedi Knight. While his teachings fell short on account of his death, it was Tapal’s sacrifice that ensured young Cal was able to safely escape the clutches of the Empire.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s Second Sister Trilla with a look of anguish

Jaro’s representation in the game is heavily influenced by Cal’s own internal struggles to come to terms his master’s tragic death. Tapal is projected as angry and dismissive of Cal’s abilities, however players eventually understand this to be a projection stemming from Cal’s own belief that he failed his master. While he is not an active character in the story, gamers can anticipate that Tapalmay yet still have a role to play in the upcoming sequel.

3The Second Sister/Trilla

The Second Sister of the Imperial Inquisitorius, formerly known as Trilla, is the main antagonist ofJedi: Fallen Order. She seeks to do her master’s bidding by locating the holocron and destroying what remains of the Jedi Order. Her identity at first is not known until players begin to understand Cere’s past and what became of her former Padawan, Trilla, who Cere believed to be dead.

Trilla’stragic story would meet an equally-tragic end, as she loses a lightsaber duel to Cal and fails to acquire the holocron. Despite their best intentions, Cal and Cere are not able to sway Trilla to turn her back on the Dark Side before her current master, Darth Vader, arrives and slays his apprentice for her failures.

The role of droids in variousStar Warstales is often overlooked but invaluable. InJedi: Fallen Order, this formula is no different. BD-1 is an explorer droid who was once the companion of Eno Cordova. After realizing that they were in danger on Zeffo, Cordova programmed BD-1’s memory to be blocked until the droid trusted someone enough with what they discovered.

BD-1 befriends Cal early in the story and a strong bond of friendship is formed. Once BD-1 begins to trust Cal, he reveals the location of the holocron they were seeking, providing him with the information he needed to embark on his quest.

1Cal Kestis

Cal Kestis is the main protagonist ofJedi: Fallen Order. A Jedi Padawan that hid his Force-wielding following the events of Order 66, Cal lives in exile on the planet Bracca, avoiding those who seek to destroy what remains of the Jedi Order. After he is forced to use his powers to stop his friend Prauf from plummeting to his death, Cal comes out of hiding and dedicates himself to restoring the Jedi Order.

With the help of his companions on theMantis, Cal recovers a holocron containing the identity of Force-sensitive children and destroys it, but not without some stern resistance from the Second Sister. Players witness Cal’s character development as he comes to terms with the tragic death of his Jedi Master and matures intoa wise and level-headed Jedi Knightas the narrative concludes.
