Fans can really bring out the best in the things they love. Whether it’s something more traditional like a scarily accurate cosplay or a lengthy write-up imaginingDetective Columbo debunking an entire franchise, the sheer amount and quality of the creativity showcased in fan works never ceases to amaze. That rule is no different in this latest case, which features a twist on everyone’s favorite broody Inspector Gadget wannabe, The Winter Soldier.
Dedicated Instagram cosplayer snarkyjaycosplay decided to transform the ruthless mercenary-turned-awkward restaurant patron James “Bucky” Barnes into a ruthless mercenary-turned-awkward restaurant patron who is also a woman now. Channeling her raw creativity into an impressively well-made recreation of Bucky’s Winter Soldier outfit, including the metal arm, she apparently decided there was no need to attempt to replicateeverythingabout the character, and took some creative liberties that appear to have paid off.

“Seven years ago, I never would have thought my all-time favorite comic book character would be in a major show, with real dialogue and an actual personality,” Jay said, in her Instagram post commemorating the premiere ofDisney’s surprisingly hard-hitting seriesThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier. “Today, @falconandwintersoldier started streaming. Silly— but it’s a dream come true.” Her dedication to her craft shows through magnificently with this cosplay, as well as her countless other similar projects based on her other favorite properties.
It’s nice to see Bucky getting so much recognition after all this time. Sebastian Stan’s character has been sort of on the back burner ever since his introduction literally 10 years ago (seriously) inCaptain America: The First Avenger, and considering how he was handled back then, many people (at least those who weren’t familiar with the comics) never even expected to see him again. Now, with a number of fansseeing Bucky as one of the MCU’s most developed characters, he’s certainly come a long way since the days of just hanging out with his little buddy Steve.
Jay’s cosplay also works on another unexpected level. She actually looks a bit like actress Adrianne Palicki, who has a substantial history of action roles which even include an extended appearance in the MCU onAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.This take on Bucky, as well as Jay’s many other high-quality cosplays, indirectly showcase just how well Palicki would fit visually as various superhero and otherwise action-oriented characters. Palicki even played Wonder Woman in an unaired pilot for a series that was never picked up, which fits rather well with Jay’s own cosplays of the same character.
But this isn’t about Palicki (even though she’s a treasure who deserves to be far more famous), it’s about this cosplay and the masterful creative mind behind it. Snarkyjaycosplay is home to countless other showcases like this one that match their targeted characters just about as well as thiseerily spot-on General Leia Organa cosplay. So give her a follow for more of that, and in the meantime, continue celebrating all the fantastic fan creations out there.
