Summary
WhileMortal Kombat 1will reboot the series once more, beginning its timeline from the start, many of the traditions of previousMortal Kombattitles are returning. One long-held tradition of NeatherRealm Studio’sMortal Kombatseries is the inclusion of guest characters, andMK1has already promised super-powered visitors with Omni-Man and Homelander.Mortal Kombat 1’s inclusion of Kameo Fighters means it can feature a larger roster than previous titles, and with the inclusion of Homelander, it would make sense for the game to include another character fromThe Boysas a Kameo Fighter.
Mortal Kombat 1’sKameo Fighter systemis one of the game’s most significant additions. This newMKgame promises to be a radical departure for the franchise in many ways. WhileMortal Kombat 11brought the series in a more subdued direction akin toStreet Fighter 5,Mortal Kombat 1is pushing in the opposite direction, giving players more freedom. This has taken the form of increased aerial options and the addition of assist characters. These Kameos can be summoned to perform singular attacks and participate in combos, and while the feature is clearly inspired by games likeMarvel vs. Capcom, the Kameo Fighters cannot be tagged in fully and serve only as assists.

Soldier Boy Would Be A Great Kameo Fighter
Kameo Fighters have three moves each: one is bound to press the Kameo button, the second is bound to pressing that same button with a forward or back directional input (each one offering a slight variation), and the third is activated by pressing the button with a down input. Withnew Kameo Fightersbeing announced and Homelander confirmed as a DLC character, it would be a shame not to see an assist character fromThe Boysas well, and Soldier Boy would be a great choice. Soldier Boy’s skills and powers provide him with a number of utilities that would make him a well-rounded Kameo Fighter with diverse applications.
The first of Soldier Boy’s abilities could be using his shield. He could block instead of the primary character, opening the opponent up to be punished. If attacked by a projectile his shield could potentially reflect it back at the opponent. TheCaptain America-inspired Soldier Boyis also an excellent marksman, so his forward/back Kameo ability could be using his gun. One variation could fire straight while the other could fire in the air. This would make him a strong companion for a base fighter with limited ranged or anti-air options. This ability could also potentially be used as a combo finisher to get more damage.

Characters From The Boys Make Sense For Mortal Kombat
Soldier Boy’s final ability could be his energy burst. This could be used most obviously as a combo extender, launching the opponent into a juggle state. Another potential for this move, especially if the developers wanted to make the bursts huge, would be as a combo ender. This move, in combination with Soldier Boy’s use of his gun and shield, would allow him to make a strong complement to many different play styles. On top of having a clear move set, Soldier Boy and the world presented inEric Kripke’s adaptation ofThe Boysare a perfect fit forMortal Kombat; both are over-the-top, violent, and share a grim sense of humor.
MKandThe Boys' shared use of over-the-top violence is what makes includingHomelander inMortal Kombat 1seem like such an obvious choice. While previousMortal Kombatgames have only included a singular guest from a franchise, the addition of Kameo Fighters could open the door for more guests from each series, and through their similarities Soldier Boy would be the perfect starting place. There aren’t any guest Kameo Fighters officially revealed for the game right now, but given the popularity of guest characters in the series, it only feels like a matter of time before they are included inMortal Kombat 1.
Mortal Kombat 1will release on September 19 for PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
