Thoma is a Pyro polearm character released inGenshin Impact2.2. He is the third 4-Star character that hails from Inazuma. Well, actually, Thoma originally came from Mondstadt. But he traveled to the Electro region and is now the housekeeper of the Kamisato clan.
RELATED:Genshin Impact: The Best Builds For Thoma
Thoma is first featured with Hu Tao’s rerun banner along with Sayu and Diona. It appears thatGenshin Impact2.2’s banner is filled with 4-Star support characters. The housekeeper, like Diona, is a shielder that scales with HP. However, unlike Sayu and Diona, Thoma is not a healer. Both his Elemental Skill and Burst provide shields to protect his team.
Sucrose
Sucrose grants a major Elemental Mastery buff via her Elemental Skill and Burst. Since Thoma will steal the team’s Elemental reactions sometimes, her buff will minorly increase the character’s reaction damage.
As an Anemo character, Sucrose can also reduce the enemies' Pyro resistance after Thoma applies Pyro to them. This allows players to play Sucrose and Thoma with Hu Tao. Hu Tao can deal greater damage because of the lowered enemies' resistance.

However, Thoma andSucrose need a very specific timingto pull this off. Players need to ensure that the housekeeper applies Pyro to the enemies before using Sucrose to trigger Swirl.
Kazuha
If travelers useHu Tao + Xingqiu + Sucrose + Thoma, Thoma sometimes can’t apply Pyro on the enemy because Xingqiu already affects them with Hydro.
RELATED:Genshin Impact: Tips For Using Kazuha
However, this issue is not as big with Kazuha. When Thoma uses his Elemental Skill, he imbues himself with Pyro, opening the room for Kazuhato easily trigger Pyro Swirl (even if the enemies are affected with Hydro).
This way, Kazuha’s Elemental Skill doesn’t only reduce the enemies' Pyro resistance and grant Pyro DMG bonus, but it also triggers higher damage via Vaporize.

Hu Tao
Hu Tao was (and still is) the most popular option with Thoma. The Funeral Parlor Director constantly loses HP when she uses her Elemental Skill. This is why Hu Tao desperately needs a shielder. Previously, the only obvious option for Hu Tao was Zhongli. But now, the Geo Archon can be replaced by Thoma.
RELATED:Genshin Impact: Mistakes Players Make When Using Hu Tao
The previous team composition with Hu Tao is typicallyXingqiu + Hu Tao + Zhongli + Support/Sub-DPS. This arrangement makes it impossible for an Anemo character to fit in for resistance reduction. In this composition, Anemo characters can’t trigger Pyro Swirl because the only Pyro character is Hu Tao.Hu Tao needs to activate her ElementalSkill before she can apply Pyro to the enemy, but if Hu Tao is swapped out, her Pyro infusion will disappear.
With Thoma, Hu Tao will gain protection while making it possible for the team to trigger Pyro Swirl. The team composition is now something like;Xingqiu + Hu Tao + Thoma + Kazuha/Sucrose.

Bennett
Thoma’s Elemental Burst needs to always be available for him to ensure protection on the team. However, this ability requires 80 energy to activate. 80 is the highest energy requirement for an Elemental Burst (except for Raiden Shogun that needs 90), yet Thoma can’t fill his Burst alone.
This is where Bennett steps in. The Adventurer has a very low Elemental skill cooldown that regenerates a decent amount of energy.Bennett will help Thoma to quickly regain his Burst, making it easier for the housekeeper to maintain 100% shield uptime.

Xiangling
Xiangling is one of the best Sub-DPS inGenshin Impact, but just like Thoma,Xiangling has energy issuesand an Elemental Burst that needs 80 energy. This is why, most of the time, both characters require Energy Recharge to function properly.
With Thoma and Xiangling together, they will trigger the Pyro resonance, increasing the whole team’s ATK by 25%. The additional attack can cover the lost stat from boosting their Energy Recharge.

Furthermore, Xiangling will boost Thoma’s damage by reducing the enemies' resistance and increasing the team’s Pyro DMG bonus.
Yoimiya
Yoimiya is the third 5-Star character from Inazuma. Just like Thoma, the fireworks shop owner wields the Pyro vision. Her Elemental Skill is similar to Hu Tao where she infuses her arrows with Pyro. However, unlike the Wangsheng Parlor Director,Yoimiya has a longer cooldownand less ability to trigger Elemental reactions. This is why Yoimiya is not very popular among the fanbase.
Furthermore, for Yoimiya to deal the most damage, she needs to finish her Normal Attack sequence. To do so, the unit can’t get hit while doing her attacks. Shielders are crucial for Yoimiya to perform her potential. With Thoma, Yoimiya will not only gain protection but also extra ATK via Pyro Resonance.

Ningguang
Geo characters have the ability to deal great damage without needing Elemental reactions. This is why Ningguang is one of the most versatile DPSinGenshin Impact.
Out of all the available resonances, Pyro resonance is the most popular. But arguably, Geo resonance is better than Pyro. It increases shield strength by 15%, and grant these bonus to characters protected by a shield:

With Thoma + another Pyro and Geo character, Ningguang will benefit from both Geo and Pyro resonance.
Genshin Impactis now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
