Ubisoft’sAssassin’s Creed15th Anniversary Celebration Livestream celebrated all aspects of the franchise. The franchise turns 15-years-old this year, which is definitely a reason for celebration.Assassin’s Creedhas a lot of uphill battles, moments of triumph, and more throughout that history, but the Livestream also gave fans a small tease for the future.

For example, it confirmedAssassin’s Creed Valhalla’s new roguelike Forgotten Saga game mode, where Odin does battle in Niflheim. There are possibly even some story elements, as it references the Daughter of Loki. But perhaps the announcement with the biggest implications for the future was a new reveal set for September, focusing on the franchise’s future.

Not much was officially said, but Ubisoft confirmed an event for September 2022 where the future of the franchise will be confirmed during a “Very special event.” This could be anAssassin’s Creed-only event, or it could be a new take onUbisoft Forward, which has had a few rumors lately. Either way, withAssassin’s Creed Valhalla’s new content already confirmed, it’s possible that the Final Chapter is revealed there, but it’s more likely to be one of theAssassin’s Creedgames in development.

As it stands, there are rumors, reports, and confirmations about three games coming to the franchise. The first and most official is Assassin’s Creed Infinity, a live-service game where players are reportedly able to play as different assassins throughout various points of history. It seems the Animus essentially becomes a hub, and while Ubisoft has confirmed this title, very little is actually known about it. Many will likely be hoping for something alongside it, though, and that’s whereAssassin’s Creed Rift, a small-scale action-adventure title featuring the belovedBasim fromAssassin’s Creed Valhallais likely to come in.

This title was first reported by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, confirming the code name ofAssassin’s Creed Rift, how it evolved from aValhallaDLC, and the focus on Basim. Ubisoft hasn’t officially commented on it, however, but as it is billed like a throwback to older games, many fans will no doubt hope to see it there. It’s rumored to release sometime in 2023, which makes sense given how COVID-19 likely impacted its development. The third title that may or may not be there isAssassin’s Creed Nexus, the VR take on the franchise.

Ubisoft has not confirmed if any of these titles would be there, but with it looking at the future, these are the best options going forward–perhapsAssassin’s Creed Riftis the most importantof the three for its future.

Assassin’s Creed Valhallais available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
