Fans of Ubisoft’sTom Clancy’sgames took a hit this past week whenTom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extractionwas delayed from September this year into 2022. TheRainbow Six Siegespin-off will offer a fresh sci-fi spin, rare in theTom Clancy’sfranchise. Ubisoft appears to empathize with those let down by this news, it seems. WhileRainbow Six Extractionmay be delayed, Ubisoft is lining up something else new in theTom Clancy’sfranchise, instead, and it is set to be revealed tomorrow.
The confirmation from Ubisoft came as a complete surprise, dropping on the official Ubisoft Twitter account with little fanfare. The tweet is short and simple, promising the worldwide reveal of a brand newTom Clancy’sgame at 11:00 am PT/2:00 pm ET on July 19. The only other hint from the text of the tweet is that “things are going to get wild,” a hint that doesn’t have a clear tie to any pastTom Clancy’sgame, as any tie toGhost Recon Wildlandsis certainly unintentional.

Rather than leave fans pondering what the new project could be, however, Ubisoft spoiled the surprise a bit early. A clip was shared by IGN shortly after Ubisoft’s announcement. The clip confirms that the newTom Clancy’sgame is a first-person shooter with what looks like team-based gameplay, not unlikeCall of Duty. As such, it seems like Ubisoft could be announcing a new type of competitive multiplayer game tomorrow.
What’s different about the newTom Clancy’sgame, setting it apart fromCall of Duty, is that the player appears to have several abilities reminiscent of aclass fromThe Division. For example, the player has an activatable shield fired from a gun that blocks enemy gunfire for a brief amount of time. They also have a grenade, which likely has a special effect, and an ultimate ability that isn’t used.
Those who have been following rumors regarding Ubisoft’s in-development projects may recall a leak recently about an in-development FPS based onThe Division. That project’s name wasBattleCatand features elements both fromThe DivisionandSplinter Cell. At its heart, however, it is supposedly a team-based PvP game. The announcement was expected to come at E3 2021, but it’s possible Ubisoft’s development team needed extra time.
Fans of theTom Clancy’sgames will find out exactly what Ubisoft is teasing tomorrow at 11:00 am PT/2:00 pm ET via Ubisoft’s streaming and social media channels. Whether it’s tied toRainbow Six,Ghost Recon,Splinter Cell,Endwar,HAWX,The Division, or is something entirely new, it’s going to be exciting to find out what Ubisoft’s doing with theTom Clancy’sseries next.
