Summary
After redefining the superhero video game genre back in 2009 withBatman: Arkham Asylum,DCwas on top of the world, at least for a little while. Thanks to the rest of theArkhamseries, theBatmanTelltale games, NetherRealm’sInjustice,DC Universe Online, andtheLEGO Batmangames, DC’s video game division always had something to offer, even when its cinematic department was dropping the ball. But for the last few years, DC’s video game output hasn’t been all that great.
The 2020s have been pretty barren for DC video games. The last three years have mostly consisted of mobile games and titles based on kid’s shows likeDC Super Hero Girlsand movies likeDC League of Super-Pets. The only big AAA DC video game release of the 2020s so far waslast year’sGotham Knights, a disappointing co-op adventure that had no shortage of issues. But the 2020s are far from over, and 2024 has the potential to really turn things around for DC video games.

Rocksteady’sSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguehas had a rocky few years. Announced all the way back in August 2020, many fans were initially disappointed that Rocksteady wasn’t working on another Batman game, or along-rumored Superman game, but many came back around thanks toSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s intriguing first few trailers. But once fans finally got to see an extended look at gameplay earlier this year, the reception around the game changed in a heartbeat, causing Warner Bros. and Rocksteady to delay the game by almost an entire year.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueis set to release in just a few months, on July 04, 2025, and the reception around the game is still shaky. Though Rocksteady is doing its best to remain transparent and show more of whatSuicide Squadhas to offer, the recent wave of leaks surrounding the game’s story hasn’t helped at all. But even in spite of the gameplay trailers, the alpha tests, and now these damaging leaks,Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguestill has the potential to be one ofthe best DC games ever made, it just all needs to come together in the end.
